Guest: Hope Ryan – Why HEA?
Thank you so much for the opportunity to appear today!
When I sat down and started to write adult fiction, I had a pretty good idea what kind of endings my stories would have. I’d been a reader of romance – straight romance – for many years. I liked the hope that comes with a happy ending. And, since I read to get away from the real world, I wanted to see the kind of ending that might not always happen in life. I liked thinking about the couples after the fact, imagining what they might even...

Guest: Suki Fleet
Hi Jamie, thanks for having me on your blog. Today, I’d like to talk about what, in part, inspired my new release This is Not a Love Story. It is an intense (and I’ve been told emotional) love story about two boys struggle to survive on the streets of London. Teen homelessness (and homelessness in general) is a major theme in my story.
A few years ago now, I saw a kid sitting in a dark narrow alley way in the town where I live. There was a dirty sleeping bag tucked around him, and he was cryin...

Behind the Scenes of Kismet with Author Lillian McKinnon
I am incredibly proud to host author Lillian McKinnon today. She’s a beautiful, talented author and a great friend. Not many teens/almost teens have the drive and ambition to write complete works, she’s amazing.
Thank you for letting me kick off your blog tour.
A special note from Lillian:
Kismet is a free read, so rather than have the usual buy links up, below you’ll find two fund raiser links. One is for a homeless youth charity called Lost-N-Found Youth. Not every kid is lucky enough enough...

Native American Views Towards Homosexuality
My novel, Pukawiss the Outcast, details the experiences of Joshua, a gay, 14-year-old, Ojibwe teen as he comes of age on a reservation in northern Wisconsin. One of the reasons I wanted to write this novel was to contrast Native American views toward homosexuality with that of Christianity. In the book, Joshua was raised by a conservative Christian mother who views gay people as an abomination before God, so Joshua must keep his true self hidden. But when he returns to his reservation to live...

Ice Fairy by S.L. Danielson
Samuru (Sam) Ogawa is on track to be in his life’s dream…the Olympics as a figure-skater. All is gliding along smoothly until he literally bumps into one of the biggest bullies he’s ever met; a hockey player named Brett Zephyr. He’s well known for being a brash, hot-headed, caveman who thinks about nothing but hockey and his bimbo girlfriend.
Things are tense and the walls between them build until unforeseen events begin to break the ice between them. But as the coolness melts away; other play...

Private Display of Affection – Winter Sandberg
As I’ve told more and more people about my latest book release Private Display of Affection, I’ve been asked one question on a fairly consistent basis. Why Young Adult? At first I didn’t really “get” what people were asking me, but as I bounced questions back at them, I found out that people really wanted to know why I’d want to “limit” myself.
That’s laughable to me. I’ve been reading Young Adult novels for years because they were the one genre th...

Saying Goodbye to our Dakota
“Sometimes, bad things happen to good people.” That phrase is so ingrained in our culture, it’s nearly a cliché. In this case, it could not be more true. As some of you may have heard, last Thursday, our featured blogger Dakota Blevins was on his way back to school in Birmingham when he was killed in an accident. His words, his messages, and his light will stay with us in his short but beautiful legacy. Dakota has written posts on this blog during the last few months, always starting them wit...

What Do You Mean That’s Not the Top of the Mountain?!? by Johanna Parkhurst
Hi, Jamie Mayfield readers! I’m Johanna Parkhurst, and my book, Here’s to You, Zeb Pike comes out tomorrow (November 7th) from Harmony Ink Press.
The title of my new book, Here’s to You, Zeb Pike, might be considered by some to be a little strange. Zebulon Pike was a well-known American explorer who lived over a hundred years ago, and the book is contemporary—not historical fiction. Zeb Pike himself never makes one appearance in the book.
The book is actually called Here’s to You, Zeb Pike beca...
