Susan M Wyler is a poet and novelist living on a beautiful oasis in the west side of Los Angeles. She wrote her first novel when she was seven and has written four other as yet unpublished novels. Her subject matter in fiction and poetry -- the soul's ability to survive inside the body like a plant seeking water and light. She studied eighteenth century history at UCLA and Oxford University. A master yoga teacher, she's been practicing and teaching students for more than forty years. She is currently writing a book about a woman who's taken the journey to stop dissociating from real experience. In her body fully for the first time in her life, living in Istanbul.

Something about becoming a public person seemed to have frightened my muses, and they fled. Suddenly, I had no access to writing. Sometimes all you can do is wait. But after a while, there are things you can do to stimulate writing: travel to an exotic place, say yes to every invitation, be a little brave in the world (whatever that means to you) and then do what Dorothea Brande recommended in 1934 -- get up earlier than usual and before anything else (even coffee) write for as long as you can, anything that comes. Do this until your unconscious trusts you again. (less)
