Angela is the author of upmarket (i.e., book club) women’s/contemporary fiction. Her award-winning novels explore coming of age, generational secrets, and redefining self as well as unrequited love, dysfunctional families, and living with mental illness (among other themes), but always with an empathy that respects the complexity of the human experience and a huge helping of heart. I felt the promise of other dimensions, even without knowing how to describe such a thing. I felt the watchful eye of fairies in the woods – sometimes benevolent, sometimes mischievous, only once or twice sensing malevolence. Maybe you’ve sensed such things as well!

Could it be ou

“Perhaps, when you leave your childhood behind too early and jump into adulthood, certain parts of you never fully grow up. They just become stunted child parts disguised in a grown-up body.”
Angela Hoke, A Whisper of Smoke

“And I had learned that lesson with a drowning dose of humility - humility born of knowing that I had failed Hank in every way that I believed Mama had failed me, failed all of us; humility that had painfully driven home the realization that every human being is capable of terrible transgressions, and exquisite goodness, and that neither has to define a person.”
Angela Hoke, A Whisper of Smoke

“There was nothing to disturb the senses, as if we'd entered a void - some rip in space and time where the senses became useless. You could get lost here, and no one would find you unless you wanted to be found. It was seductive, this nothingness.”
Angela Hoke, A Whisper of Smoke
