Librarypalooza
I spent last Saturday in San Antonio, TX at Librarypalooza...an author event that was attended by over a thousand eager, young readers. The authors with me were Carl Deuker, James Dashner, Laura Lee Gulledge, Marissa Meyer, Siobhan Vivian and Jenny Han.
Whenever I attend an author event like this one I lament that I never had anything like this happen when I was a kid. I have to believe that was because when I was young we didn't have the wealth of middle grade and YA fiction that exists today. So young readers out there...you don't know how great you have it!
I recommend that wherever you live, you should check with your local bookstores or your school librarians for information about similar events that may be happening near you. There's a good chance that one of your favorite authors might be coming to your neck of the woods. Or ask your school librarian to try and arrange an author visit to your school. You'd be amazed how many authors do that all the time. Even if it's a Skype visit. If you're a reader, or a writer, access to your favorite authors isn't as difficult as you might expect. (Unless it's J.K. Rowlings or somebody like that. Don't hold your breath there)

New D.J. Blog
Guess I'm diving in with both feet. Or at least one pinky toe. I'll "blog" here when the mood strikes. Hopefully that will be more often than once every year or so. One of the reasons I don't blog much is that I think it's ego-centric to believe anybody would want to read someone's banal meanderings. (At least the one's that aren't officially published and with a dust jacket, that is) So I don't think I'll write unless I have something interesting/timely/funny/entertaining to present. So I guess that means I WON'T be blogging much more than every year or so. We'll see.
