So, Are We Actually Listening to Black Women? - SARN Minis #77
Hi, I'm Sharon Hurley Hall. Welcome to the Sharon's Anti-Racism Newsletter podcast, SARN Minis.
I recorded this one on the road, so you may hear a little traffic noise in the background, but I realised something as I was browsing LinkedIn today: I don't want to talk about algorithmic bias anymore.
I've talked about it for years. I've shared evidence, some as recently as a couple of months ago, but I want to shout out here Dr...

Anti-Racism Reading List November 2025
Hello {{ first name | friends}},
This month, I've curated articles looking at both the US and the UK, but have also included perspectives from authors from a wider cultural background. Power, privilege, civility, reparations. It's all here, and then some. Dive in when you're ready ...

REBOOT: Typecasting: Double-Takes, Danger, and Death
Hello {{ first name | friends}},
It’s time for another blast from the recent past. This month it’s about how people racialised as white see people racialised as Black and some of the experiences and consequences that result. I’ve updated some of the language in this, and added some insight from more recent eexperiences.
Typecasting: Double-Takes, Danger, and DeathAs a woman racialised as Black—a person of the Global Majority*—every time I...

Trials, Tribulations, & Transcendence (Working While Black)
Hello {{ first name | friends}},
I love having the chance to have a deep discussion with my sister and The Introvert Sisters podcast co-founder, Lisa. This topic was very much related to what I talk about in this newsletter, so I’m sharing a few excerpts here. We had so much to say that we did another episode on the topic, so look out for that soon. In this episode, we discuss microaggressions, exclusion, inequity and survival strategies.

"You're Much Quieter Than I Thought You Would Be"
Hello {{ first name | friends}},
Here's another tale from the past, this time from when I was living in England. A friend and I had rented a downstairs flat from a family (which it later turned out they weren't supposed to rent out, but that's a story for another time. Our upstairs neighbour was racialised as white, as were most of the people in that area. We were two of very few people either racialised as Black or belonging...

Why Can't We End Oppression? - SARN Minis #76
Hi, I'm Sharon Hurley Hall. Welcome to the Sharon's Anti-Racism Newsletter podcast, SARN Minis.
Today, I'd like to share something I wrote on LinkedIn back in April. It touches on my why and on three ways I serve my community.
Tell me why we can't end oppression.
All it takes is will and action. We humans have plenty of both for things that matter less. So why not for the things that matter most?
Many of us see ahead to the logical consequences...

Where Are All the Black Folx Going?
New Report: What 49 Voices Tell Us About Anti-Racism and DEI Today
! Q4 slots now available.Hello {{ first name | friends}},
If you've had any conversations with Black people this year, you'll probably have heard a version of the conversation about finding spaces where they (we) feel safer and more valued. This isn't new, of course. But there's a real impetus now to create what doesn't exist so that people racialised as Black have spaces where they can be, and escape from t...

Review: The Empathy Gap: It Is Black and White by Tammy Triolo
Coming soon: Your Introversion is Power - a masterclass for quiet revolutionaries.
Hello {{ first name | friends}},
I wanted to highlight everything in this book. At once a balm to the spirit and a spirited rebuttal of the failings of the emotional systems that underpin white supremacist thinking and discriminatory and racist systems, The Empathy Gap was the book I needed. It's an easy read with hard truths that suggests how we can move forward in community and honouring our shared humanity.

An Update From Sharon November 2025
Hello {{ first name | friends}},
The end of the year is fast approaching. As I look back over October, all I can think is: where did the time go?
On a personal note, a lot of the month was a waiting game, as various bits of news with implications for the future were pending. Thankfully, most of those have now been resolved in the ideal way, clearing the mental decks, at least.
Podcasts and Videos GaloreI did and planned a lot of podcasts during the month. I appeared on Lisa's Space to Exhale podcas...
