The perfect guest room: How to impress your visitors

Designing a guest room that is both beautiful and comfortable is essential for creating a welcoming space that guests will love. When guests arrive, they want to feel as though they are staying in a hotel that offers all the amenities they need while also enjoying the intimacy and charm of a home. To create a warm and inviting design, it's important to focus on the essentials that any traveller would appreciate. Start with a luxurious bed that provides guests with a comfortable and restful night's sleep. A chair for reading or making phone calls is also a must, along with items that are often forgotten, such as phone chargers and toiletries. A guest room also presents an opportunity to experiment with décor trends that you may not want to incorporate into your own bedroom. Consider adding bold wall treatments, bright colours, or twin beds to create a unique and memorable experience for your guests. By combining these design elements, you can create a guest room that is both comfortable and stylish, offering your guests a home away from home that they'll never want to leave.

Bookshelf Providing a well-organised and charming bookshelf is one of the modern guest room ideas to encourage your guests to explore and find something interesting to read. In addition, you can arrange the books with other decorative elements, such as reading lamps, potted plants, or small figurines, and sort them by language, genre, colour, and more. Add greeneryAdding greenery to a guest room is a simple yet effective way to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Not only does it add a touch of liveliness, but it can also help uplift the mood of your guests. If your guest room has large windows or open spaces, consider bringing nature indoors by adding potted plants or placing large window pots. Climbers and trellises can also create a vertical garden that adds visual interest and freshness to the space. Green is a colour that needs little embellishment, making it the perfect addition to any guest room décor. It can be easily incorporated into any design style, from modern to traditional. Inviting the green within will create a cosy and inviting space that your guests will love.
guest bedroom design Choose a distinct style When it comes to decorating a guest room, you have plenty of options to choose from. You can opt for traditional or modern themes such as Moroccan, French, Spanish, Bohemian, etc. Alternatively, you can mix and match different styles by incorporating contemporary pieces of furniture into a traditional setup. A simple, casual, and tidy style would also be suitable if you prefer a more straightforward approach. Ultimately, the style choice will depend on your taste and the overall ambience you want to create in the guest room. Add things to readCreate a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere in your guest room by giving visitors something to read. Consider stocking the bedside tables with current magazines or books that are easy to read and offer a variety of topics. This small gesture can make a big difference in your guests' overall experience, especially those who enjoy reading a good book or magazine after a long day of activities. Literary-minded guests will appreciate the opportunity to indulge in their passion, while others may discover a new interest or hobby.
Remember to include a reading lamp or other light source that allows your guests to read comfortably without straining their eyes. By providing a cosy reading nook in your guest room, you can help your visitors feel at home and create a memorable experience they will cherish. Pick some rugsIncorporating rugs into a guest bedroom can provide numerous advantages. Not only do they anchor the furniture, but they also bring a sense of unity to the overall design and increase the room's cosy ambience. In addition, placing a light-coloured area rug on the floor of a small guest bedroom can create the illusion of more space. However, it's crucial to ensure that the carpet stretches at least one foot from all sides of the bed to avoid looking too small or out of place.
Providing storage spaceProviding adequate storage space is an essential element of any well-designed guest room. It's vital to ensure that your guests have plenty of space to store their belongings and make themselves at home during their stay. One way to achieve this is by emptying closets and dressers or adding a folding luggage rack to make it easier for guests to unpack and keep their belongings organised.
Additionally, consider providing a tray filled with essentials such as toothpaste and snacks, as it is a simple yet thoughtful gesture that your guests will surely appreciate. Another great storage option is an extra-long bedside table with dressers, which can function as a desk and a storage space. This provides your guests ample storage for their items and a convenient workspace for checking emails or catching up on work. Incorporating these storage solutions into your guest room design ensures guests feel comfortable and at home during their stay. Getting the bathroom rightWhen designing a guest bathroom, it is important to prioritise both cleanliness and safety. A toilet that is not only clean but also safe for your guests will help ensure that they feel comfortable and at home during their stay. Consider adding safety features such as a non-slip mat, a seat for children, or a bench for elderly guests to make their visit as safe and enjoyable as possible.
Additionally, ensure that the hot water runs perfectly and the heater is always on, particularly during the colder months. Finally, consider preparing everything they need to anticipate your guests' needs and make their stay as comfortable as possible. This includes putting extra towels in the bathroom and enough toilet paper rolls in visible places. You may even want to provide toothbrushes and toothpaste just in case they forget their own. These small touches will go a long way in making your guests feel welcomed and appreciated. Entertainment zoneThere's no need for your guest room to be limited to hosting guests or serving as a storage space for your belongings. With creative planning, you can transform it into a versatile family room, home theatre, or entertainment zone. By carefully selecting furniture and décor, you can create a space that can function as both a guest room and a multipurpose room. For example, a sofa bed can be used for visitors to sleep on while also serving as seating for movie nights or gatherings. Bed as a centrepieceThe bed is the centrepiece and a vital element of the overall décor when designing a guest room. Visitors spend significant time resting on the bed, whether listening to music, chatting on the phone, or binge-watching their favourite shows. As such, prioritising comfort is essential when selecting a bed for your guest room. A King or Queen-size bed made of high-quality wood and featuring a comfortable headboard is the ideal choice for creating a comfortable and inviting space for your guests. Not only should the mattress be comfortable, but it should also be visually appealing and complement the room's overall décor. By selecting a high-quality bed with comfort and style, you can create a guest room that your visitors will love and never want to leave. A correct lighting schemeLayered lighting is one of the essential components of any well-designed bedroom, whether it is for guests or the main bedroom. It is important to consider incorporating a variety of lighting options that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. When choosing lighting fixtures, it's essential to select dimmable ones to create a warm and inviting ambience. For overall lighting, consider using a pendant or downlighters to provide ample illumination throughout the space. A standard lamp can also create a cosy and intimate atmosphere in the corner of the room. Finally, bedside lights are necessary for late-night reading or providing a soft, subtle glow throughout the room. By combining these different lighting options, you can create a functional and visually appealing bedroom, offering the perfect atmosphere for rest and relaxation.Workstation In addition to providing a comfortable space for your guests to unwind and sleep, it is essential to consider that some may need to get work done during their stay. You can create a small home office area in the guest room to accommodate this. A closet can be transformed into a work nook, or you can choose a desk with a compact design. Good lighting and a comfortable chair are vital to ensuring that your guests can work while staying at your home. Do not forget the wastebasket It is advisable to provide a wastebasket in the guest room to make it easier for visitors to dispose of any litter they accumulate during their stay. In addition, guests may gather various items, such as luggage tags, ticket stubs, and snack wrappers, so having a designated place to discard these items is essential for keeping the room tidy and comfortable for all occupants.

If you're hosting guests during the holidays or for any other occasion, you don't need to feel pressure to purchase new furniture or undertake a major renovation. Instead, focus on small design touches that reflect your personal style and prioritise functionality above all else. Incorporating elements that engage all five senses can help create a warm and inviting atmosphere while also making your guests feel more comfortable and at home. Consider providing easy access to essential items such as extra blankets and pillows, as well as a selection of snacks and beverages. Flexible workspaces are the pill for startups' longevity and success

Written by - Anurag Sharma, Marketing Head, Bhive Workspace

_____

In the last five years, India has witnessed some of the most transformational developments - from becoming one of the largest startup hubs with over 84,000 entities to the rollout of the fifth generation of telecommunications and internet commerce, democratising and organising new sectors. These developments have significantly altered how we conduct business and lead our lives, making them more seamless and fulfilling. Interestingly, the underlying theme, among other factors turns out to be the proliferation of flexible workspaces, which has been rapidly gaining adoption in India by freelancers, small businesses or startups.

In end-2019, the total commercial real estate under the flexible office spaces market in India was spread over some 30 million square feet, with 471,782 seats across the top seven markets, according to areport by international property consultant Jones Lang Lasalle. By the end of last year, it is estimated that the numbers have grown to 50 million square feet and 750,000 seats. By 2025, the flexible workspace market is set to cross the 1-million-seats mark with approximately 1,030,000 seats under its fold in the top seven markets spread over 75 million square feet.   This significant expansion of flexible workspaces is a testament to its efficacy in providing the necessary impetus for new-age businesses.

Iron out challenges for new businessesStarting up is one of the most challenging affairs in the world, which is why the very concept of easeof doing business came into the picture. While founders focus on establishing the business model, setting up their base operations itself poses a host of challenges - from acquiring an office space with services essential to carry out the business, attracting talent and reducing hassles in running day-to-day operations to focus on the core objective- of running the business. These hassles tend to distract founders from their core objective, and flexible workspaces aim to do exactly that with their state-of-the-art tech-enabled offices, a host of services available in a no-frills manner, and an exciting space for collaboration and innovation.
These pillars become essential as they help establish the building blocks of any business. It becomes imperative to note here that acquiring an office space with IT, concierge, security, transportation and other services in a traditional office setup are a significant drag on revenues forsmaller companies and flexible workspaces, with their pay-per-seat model allow startups to acquire office setup and services at a fraction of the cost, which brings cost efficiencies.
Geographic democratisation of flexible workspaces crucial for startups With metro cities like Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata already riding on a startup wave, smaller cities such as Jaipur, Coimbatore, and Lucknow are soon emerging as the new centres of growth for startups, with new-age businesses cropping up from across these cities. This democratisation has been happening in tandem with the development of flexible workspaces in smaller cities, which is providing the building blocks for starting up a new business. Here, the rise of flexible workspaces is also ushering in an ecosystem-wide change with the transformation of old offices into premium workspaces, elevating the service standards of vendors and creating opportunities for others to grow.
Therefore, it is safe to assume that startups and flexible workspaces are perfectly intertwined to suit each other's requirements and grow simultaneously. This, complemented by the various government-run initiatives such as Startup India, Digital India and Smart Cities to popularise startup culture, will inadvertently hinge on the mushrooming of flexible workspaces and the rise of sectoral spaces which caters to the nuanced needs of companies.

Importance of kitchen in Vastu Shastra

The kitchen represents the fire element, one of the five elements that govern our lives. When used correctly, fire can warm us and enhance our lives positively. However, when misused, it can cause damage. Hence, the kitchen's placement and design are of utmost importance in Vastu Shastra.

Vastu Shastra Tips for a Prosperous Kitchen
Kitchen placement: The kitchen should be in the Southeast Zone of the house.Cooking direction: While cooking, one must face east, and ideally, there should be a window towards the east zone of the kitchen. The morning rays of the sun coming from the East have the ability to kill bacteria and purify food, ensuring good health for the residents.Water placement: Water can be placed towards the North.Mixer grinder and appliances: Appliances that involve churning activity, such as the mixer grinder, microwave, and oven, should ideally be placed towards the Southeast of the kitchen.Refrigerator placement: The refrigerator represents the air element, and hence its placement should be towards the Northwest.Cabinet placement: All the heavy cabinets that hold heavy utensils should be towards the Southwest.Elements placement: Water and fire are opposing elements; hence, the washbasin should not be directly opposite the fire or next to it. They should neither be confronting nor attached to each other.Colours: Keep the colours in the kitchen soft and pastel. Adding bright colours creates more chaotic energies. Please refrain from using black, as it signifies water. Water and fire coming together can create clashing energies.

The power of anecdotes: Why anecdotes are important in content writing

As a writer, you want to captivate and keep your audience engaged. One way to do this is to use anecdotes. It is no secret that people love reading about people. So here are some tips to help you incorporate stories into your writing.

Observing people can inspire you

If you need help with story ideas, try observing people in everyday situations. For example, you could visit a café or restaurant and watch the people around you. You may overhear a conversation or witness a small drama that sparks an idea for your next article.

Anecdotes don't have to be dramatic

Stories don't always have to be dramatic to resonate with readers. Everyday situations that people can relate to can be just as practical. For example, a story about an elderly couple cheated out of their life savings and forced to sell their home could be just as compelling as a story about a dramatic event.

Include anecdotes in your content

Anecdotes can be included in various content, including blog posts, articles, and social media updates. For example, start a blog post with a personal story that sets the tone for the rest of the article.

If you want to capture your readers' attention, use anecdotes! Here are some tips to make your anecdotes more compelling:

Make your message personal

Use anecdotes to convey your message

Anecdotes are a powerful tool for conveying your message. They can help to illustrate a point and support an argument. Look for stories relevant to your topic.

Bring your characters to life

To make your anecdotes more powerful, bring your characters to life. This means creating fully formed characters with their personalities, motivations, and emotions. Describe their body language and tone of voice to help your readers understand their feelings.

Bring the setting to life

Remember the setting! The setting can add depth and context to your anecdotes. Use sensory details to help your readers visualise the scene and immerse themselves in the story.

Curtains vs blinds: Which one to choose?

When it comes to dressing up the windows, curtains and blinds are two popular options that homeowners can choose from. Both have their own set of advantages and disadvantages, and it's important to consider these features before making a decision. Here's a detailed comparison between curtains and blinds to help you make an informed choice.

Space-saving and dimensional requirements

Blinds are an ideal space saver for small homes as they can be fitted into the dimensions of the window. On the other hand, curtains are free-flowing and take up more space than blinds as they protrude beyond the window. So, if you have limited space, blinds could be a better option for you.

Picture by Jon TysonControl options and maintenance

Blinds can be controlled manually with a cord or string, or they could be automatic, being controlled with a remote control. However, they need to be handled carefully so that the string doesn't break while opening or closing. Curtains, on the other hand, are usually heavy drapes and are controlled manually. They are comparatively maintenance-free and easy to clean.

Cost

Blinds, along with their operating device, are more expensive than curtains. So, if you are on a budget, curtains could be a more affordable option for you.

Shading and light penetration

Blinds are very accurate when it comes to shading and do not allow penetration of light. However, curtains allow filtration of light from the sides and the central gap. So, if you want complete darkness in your room, blinds are a better option.

Ease of cleaning

Slatted blinds are easy to clean with a cloth, but other types of blinds have to be removed individually before washing, which becomes a cumbersome process. Curtains, on the other hand, are easier to clean and put back on the windows.

The importance of writing with passion: A practical approach to creative writing

Writing has been an integral part of human history, serving as a means of immortalizing one's thoughts or a source of livelihood. However, regardless of its purpose, writing should always be treated with reverence as it is a vital part of our existence.

Creative writing, in particular, should come from the heart. While it can be learned and copied, the essence of creativity lies in writing from the most profound thoughts and sentiments. There are countless ways to channel one's creativity towards writing, but the ultimate goal should be to write from the heart.

Writing is not just a job or a business. It is a passion. With passion, one can truly become a good writer. The inner voice that urges someone to write is a guiding force, leading one to explore the significance of writing to their being. Writing has no boundaries and can take us down a road that was set apart for us even before time began.

Creative writing is not just an art. It is a devotion and an instinct. While technical training can be helpful, at the end of the day, the key to becoming a writer lies within us. We all have a genius within us, and tuning into it can help us become better writers.

While creative writing can be channelled towards profit, the true essence of writing lies in writing from the heart and not minding the pockets. A business will find its way to those who write from the heart. In conclusion, writing with passion is a practical approach to creative writing that can lead to success both in writing and life.
