This has been a challenging process (translation: This process sucks), but I’m building an amazing mind control device to assist me in my efforts. If that doesn’t work, I may try Girl Scout cookies. “The World Beneath” is a young adult, post-apocalyptic fantasy novel in which Alex, my protagonist, faces the end of the world. However, she soon realizes that it’s also the beginning of something new. A world that has been waiting and hiding. Witches, vampires, shapeshifters, along with magic and magical creatures fill the pages of this, the first in the trilogy. I am beyond thrilled by how the book turned out, now I just need to find an agent to help me thrust it out into the world.

My other project is top secret. Okay, okay, I will share a tiny bit of information. It’s a book. What? That’s not enough? Well, alright, but you have to promise to keep it between the two of us. I am currently writing a young adult urban fantasy novel. Cassie, my protagonist, awakens on her 16th birthday to discover a newfound power. An outcast, she hopes her new found ability will help her be seen and heard. Can she wield it responsibly or will it tear her life apart? What is the power? I’m not telling yet, but it’s pretty freaking cool! For those who followed my satiric writing, this book will have strong social and political themes that I hope and believe will transcend the story to something truly special and important.

Trevor Noah
“People love to say, “Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime.” What they don’t say is, “And it would be nice if you gave him a fishing rod.” That’s the part of the analogy that’s missing. Working with Andrew was the first time in my life I realized you need someone from the privileged world to come to you and say, “Okay, here’s what you need, and here’s how it works.” Talent alone would have gotten me nowhere without Andrew giving me the CD writer. People say, “Oh, that’s a handout.” No. I still have to work to profit by it.”
Trevor Noah, Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood

W.B. Yeats
“But I, being poor, have only my dreams. I lay them at your feet. Tread lightly, for you tread on my dreams.”
William Butler Yeats

Kevin Hearne
“The danger of growing old is growing comfortable and complacent at the same time. We should seek out the new and strange and applaud it and throw wild fecking parties whenever it walks into our lives. We should be building roads in and out of our own wee heads rather than erecting walls around them.”
Kevin Hearne, Scourged

Markus Zusak
“I have hated words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right.”
Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

Fredrik Backman
“Hate can be a deeply stimulating emotion. The world becomes easier to understand and much less terrifying if you divide everything and everyone into friends and enemies, we and they, good and evil. The easiest way to unite a group isn't through love, because love is hard, It makes demands. Hate is simple. So the first thing that happens in a conflict is that we choose a side, because that's easier than trying to hold two thoughts in our heads at the same time. The second thing that happens is that we seek out facts that confirm what we want to believe - comforting facts, ones that permit life to go on as normal. The third is that we dehumanize our enemy.”
Fredrik Backman, Beartown
