Real life mystery to solve
Hello crime fans!
I have a real life mystery to solve. A friend ordered me a book from a second hand seller. When I opened it, a beautiful black and white photograph of a young lady, standing between the boughs of a blossom tree, fell from the pages. There is a label on the back saying 'From (Miss) Compton Collier' with an address and phone number. The photo is also signed by Compton Collier with a date that looks like either 1951 or 1957.
Having done a Google search, it turns out this is a portrait taken by a prolific, well respected lady photographer, some of whose work is displayed in the National Portrait Gallery and V&A. According to them, she was active between the 1910s - 1960s and photographed mainly aristocratic British families and actors/actresses. She was regularly published in Tatler and Sketch in the 1920s and 30s.
I would love to know more about Compton Collier and the subject of the portrait. And it would be marvellous to reunite this beautiful piece of art with a family member.
