| An improvement on The Queen of Air and Darkness. The narrative is sharper and the tone suitably darker. However, White still seems to struggle with how to use anachronism and the examples sometimes seem both clumsy AND out of date. | |

A real disappointment after The Sword in the Stone. White seems to struggle more with his tone here, not quite sure whether to retain the lightness of TSITS or use more gravitas for a more serious subject. Still unique, but not quite so special |
