Thank you for the music III

Here's some more, in the order from my playlist, in case you're interested -

More Casino Royale OST. It must have been a thing back then - I'm the Money -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZAEl...

More Basil, not Conan this time, but The Hunt For Red October - very different tone and mood -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8mnj...

John Williams - I normally try to shy away from him when I'm writing as otherwise I just daydream about the movies, but this is just great. - Nocturnal Activities from Temple of Doom
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4UWc...

More from Williams' spiritual successor, Giacchino and his faultless work on MOH -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcVJf...

The Elmer, just casually showing off his skills with the Mag 7
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iteR...

Ron Goodwin, not generally mentioned, despite his epic, textured score for When Eagles Dare -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kGmx...

Giacchino channelling Barry for the Incredible -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxlE3...

Paul Oakenfold and his utterly overused Zoo York -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDrlO...

I adore James Horner, Star Trek Wrath of Khan is one of the greatest OSTs ever, even if he rips off his own work from Battle Beyond the Stars and would do again for Krull, but this is my favourite standalone moment, from 48 Hours -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkhqi...

Morricone, and in my mind his most iconic tune (without whistling, anyway...)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao4TI...

That's me done for this week. Blow that out your trumpet...

Cheers

Gary Sundell Again more great music. There is a great parody of Where Eagles Dare in one of the early Pinky and The Brain episodes of Animaniacs. I am all for Giacchino scoring a Bond film, but then he essentially did that on The Incredibles. I can see how certain Williams scores might cause daydreams.

Horner did have a tendency to borrow from himself. Listen to Braveheart and Titanic back to back....or Red Heat, 48 Hours and Commando. Still loved his scores.

James Devo I'm a sucker for a Barry pastiche. I took the kids to see Penguins of Madagascar and ended up buying the soundtrack. I worked with a composer on a 60s Bond theme parody and it didn't work until we put a bossa nova beat to it. His work was so much more than the sum of its parts.
(A friend of my fathers, Hettie, who was married to Lenny and whose sons were all boxers, was John Barry's cleaner back in the day. She had signed photos of all her customers - Shirley Bassey, Terence Stamp, Michael Caine and John Barry)

Gary Sundell Lalo Schifrin did his take on a Bond Theme with The Liquidator, sung by Bassey

And Elmer Bernstein did a quasi Bond score for the Roger Moore movie Gold.

James Devo I love Gold. Good theme tune too.

Gary Sundell Elmer sure knew his way around a western score. In the car currently I am listening to Elliott Goldenthal's Pet Cemetary. The CD after that is Elmer's great score to True Grit.

James Devo I've been doing Elmer's Cast A Giant Shadow. This morning I was listening to new boy Brian Tyler's work. I adore his score to Now You See Me - one of my favourites of recent years by far.

Gary Sundell Haven't had much time to listen to music today. Maybe on the way home.
