Good cosmic karma and a big shout out...

Sometimes life delivers a series of apparent coincidences which meet an immediate need. I gather this is called synchronicity. This happened to me a few weeks ago and I feel the need to return some of that good cosmic karma in this blog...

Here’s what happened. I was waiting in hospital, feeling rather anxious, with about a four hour wait on my hands. The reason is another story for another time. Everything is fine. Needless to say, it wasn’t at the time. I knew I was in for a wait, so I’d planned to read a book. As soon as I read the first page, I knew that wasn’t going to happen. As I closed the Kindle app, I opened the Google app by mistake. I was about to close it, but the top story on my newsfeed caught my eye.

It was an article from Gamerant about a streamer who had achieved a world record, beating the notoriously difficult game Demon’s Souls without taking a single hit. If you aren’t familiar with From Software’s Soulsborne games, what he did was an extraordinary feat of skill and dexterity. I’m a massive fan of these punishing games, as some of you will know from my blog: I’m going to die and couldn’t be happier.

I had to read the article and did. It contained a link to Youtube, which I followed to watch the video. It soaked up my attention and anxiety almost to the minute of my four hour wait in hospital. It may sound like a small thing, but I was really grateful to be so perfectly distracted during this stressful time.

The streamer was a really chilled dude who goes by the Twitch handle of MiltyMilt. When I got home, I pulled up the video again, followed the link to Twitch and found his channel. As well as being a chilled dude, MiltyMilt is also a new streamer trying to build his channel and followers. Streamers, like Indie writers, are independent entertainers. I’d never thought about the Indie revolution beyond writing books. So I showed MiltyMilt some appreciation for his work by hitting the follow button and sending him some bits, which is a way to pay streamers if you like what they do.

More than being a series of coincidences which helped me at a difficult time, this event also sparked an idea for what I think will be a terrific book. So here’s a big shout out to MiltyMilt. If you use Twitch or like souls games, go to his channel, hit the follow button and help to spread the good cosmic karma.
