Death comes to us all

Alexander Rollins is as famous for his creative deaths as he is for unexpected twists. He threw a massive twist at me shortly before Christmas last year. I was busy writing Goddammit, Larry! the fourth story in the Inside Outside series, when Alexander Rollins demanded to be featured in one of my stories, not just referenced.

If you’ve read any of my work, you’ll know that the fictional New York Times Bestselling Author gets regular mentions in my stories from time to time. I suppose you could say he is to me what Kilgore Trout was to Kurt Vonnegut Jr, except in reverse. Regardless, he’s clearly a source of inspiration for me as this story sprung forth fully formed onto the e-page. In respect to the great author’s reputation for creative deaths, I’ve called it Alexander Rollins Must Die (which is available on pre-order now for a 3 Feb release).

More about this soon... in the meantime, some sage words from the man himself.

“I don’t believe our stories end when we die. Death is a change agent, a twist in the plot taking us on the next great adventure. It’s the opening pages of the next novel in the epic saga of our existence. I expect mine will be a bestseller.”

David Rose Connie wrote: "OK. I'm intrigued."

You're absolutely right to be intrigued. Alexander Rollins has been around, to my knowledge at least since Pocket-sized Yarns. Where he appeared, in the third person, in The Rest of the Story by Joe Prentis. So, Mike, care to elucidate? Or should we go ask Joe?

Michael Gardner Yes, Joe Prentis brought Alexander Rollins to life. Even though I love all the stories in Pocket-sized Yarns, I thought Joe's story was brilliant and I've had a small obsession with Alexander Rollins since. I asked Joe if we could borrow Mr Rollins to be our editor and to write the foreword for Pocket-sized Yarns, which added a nice Easter Egg to the book. Joe said, ‘go for it.’

I did go for it, and have continued to reference Mr Rollins in other books. He's mentioned in Space Plumber, The Bunker, Romance in Four Seasons, and of course is central to the story The End in The End and Other Stories.

As for pre-orders, I’m still working with Mr Rollins on the final edits for the story. Being a New York Times Bestselling Author, he has exacting standards.
