The Gospel According To Prissy is a fascinating story populated with memorable characters. We have three Army veteran misfits, a college dropout, and unmotivated high school graduate accused of murder, a controversial warden of a women’s prison, a little girl with the gift of prophesy. Lara Kruger, 31, invites them into her life after suffering a miscarriage, a divorce from an abusive husband, and unemployment. It is a powerful tale told by a talented writer.


The Gospel According to Prissy is an incredible book that is unlike anything I have read before. The Gospel According to Prissy was a delight to read and an incredibly memorable one that I will struggle to forget for a long time thanks to the compelling story and extraordinary characters. The story is heart-wrenching at times thanks to the protagonist’s struggles while at other times it is inspiring as well as eye-opening and throughout it, you will undoubtedly feel a host of different emotions that will make you think about your own life and your own journey. This is thanks to the poignant journey of one woman as she surrounds herself with eccentric but fascinating characters as well as the impeccably well-developed story courtesy of the excellent author Barbara Casey who transfixes her readers from start to finish.


Barbara Casey is a remarkable author and a genius; she is a genius because she has expertly weaved numerous themes throughout her book The Gospel According to Prissy, in a flawless way in which all subjects blend perfectly together. The Gospel According to Prissy is an incredible book that has shocked and amazed me; the gripping nature of this novel combined with themes of finding yourself make The Gospel According to Prissy not only a stellar story but also a poignant one which should be read by everybody. If you do choose to read this book, then you will not be disappointed because it is an exciting, compelling and entertaining book that should not be missed!


The Gospel According to Prissy will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the novel, Lara Kruger, a 31-year-old woman who has experienced significant hardship in recent times. Lara suffered a miscarriage, as well as divorce her husband who was abusive and as well as this she is unemployed, so it is safe to say that she has had a terrible time lately. However soon things will be on the up for Lara when she invites eccentric but remarkable characters into her life, some of whom include Army Veterans, ‘a little girl with the gift of prophecy’ and even a college dropout as well as many more characters. The reader will follow Lara as she navigates this tricky time and the story that unfolds is sensational and should definitely not be missed book lovers.

Most contemporary fiction novels these days, in my opinion, are lackluster and predictable and so my faith in this genre has dwindled over the years. The Gospel According to Prissy, however, has restored my faith in contemporary fiction as this one is incredible! The story, combined with Casey’s flawless writing which feels as if it is spiked with adrenaline make The Gospel According to Prissy a stellar read and one that should not be missed.


Barbara Casey’s prose engrossed me very quickly thanks to the poignant themes she explores as well as the gripping narrative of Lara Kruger but what also gripped me was her sensitivity to subjects explored. The sensitivity and passion in Casey’s words were admirable and kept me turning the pages quickly as I desperately wanted to read more of her exceptional prose.


As I am madly in love with The Gospel According to Prissy and think it is a unique novel with a brilliant plot, I have no choice but to award it a dazzling five stars because it deserves this! The Gospel According to Prissy indeed is a captivating book, and so I hope you lovely readers take my advice when I write that you should read this excellent book, you will not regret it!
