Some news from May
I don’t spend enough time on Goodreads, and my flood of messages everytime I log in reminds me of that. I’ll definitely try to do better.
I’ve answered most emails and on-site questions, but I figured I’d make a blog post for recurring question:
1. Wicked Crown. Do I intend to finish that series?
Answer: Hell yes! It’s not an easy series for me to finish for various reasons; one of them being that I burned out while writing it back in 2016, and the other one being that I used to “pants” (I had a general idea of how I intended to end every book I wrote, but no outline.) So, now I’m a lot more structured, I’m wondering what the hell was going on in my head XD But I’ve made a lot of progress, and Wicked Crown 2 and 3 are both planned this year. I’m likely to put them all in one volume, rather than publishing them in three different ones.
2. Age of Night. Some Girls Do It. Kings of the Tower. Do I plan on writing more?
Yes. These series are all series of standalone novels and novellas, which means no cliffhangers for my readers. I write them for fun, they’re my down-time stuff. I do plan on writing one or two per year for the foreseeable future.
There’s a lot of controversy these days about authors who publish dozens of books per year. All those books are 100% written by me, and as I’m not a robot, it means it takes me a fair bit of time to get to them. But…they’re standalone. Happily Ever After guaranteed at the end of each volume. No need to wait for me to “end” these series.
3. What about Laketown Wolves, Not Quite the Fairy Tales, Age of Blood, and *insert the name of all series tarted in 2015 and 2016*
These are also standalones. But continuing them isn’t a priority. I’m not saying I’ll never write another volume (because who knows?) but I don’t plan to right now. The one exception is Age of Blood 3, which is on my current schedule.
4. How dare you start new series while your old work is still ongoing!
Sorry guys. My books used to be cool and entertaining. I loved writing them. But then a couple of years ago, I actually picked up structuring and outlining books (Joseph Campbell is my best friend.) and suddenly I had better ideas. And I knew how to execute them.
My older books had a tendency to be short and simple. That’s why I still love working on them to this day—and why I don’t intend to end my standalones. But I stopped writing simple, short novellas because I grew as an author. Pick up the new stuff; my style is still there, my humor jump at every page, but the stories are a lot better. Promise <3
And I am *not* going to abandon *any* book that ended on a cliffhanger. Nope, nope, nope. The only ones slowing down are standalones.
5. So…what are you working on right now?
Right this second, Gold and Shadows, an Age of Gold novel. I have about a hundred page left on After Darkness Falls, a vampire paranormal romance that’s the start of a new series of standalone novels. There's seven books planned; it follows an arc that's going to blow your mind. I promise a lot of kick-ass females and immortal hotties. And also immortal kick-ass hot females, because mixing it up is fun. And after than, the next work in progress is Court of Sin, Forstbound Throne 3. That's about it until the end of spring (well, there's also one secret project during that time, but I can't tell you because....secret :P)
I work on various series/genres/worlds alternatively, because focusing on one series, months after months, as some authors do, would be one way for me to lose my mind. Seriously. I don’t get writer’s block, or burned out…as long as I switch genre every month. It’s a lesson I’ve learned the hard way.
Right, I hope this answers most of your questions!
Just so you know, I am considering sending paperback ARCs of one of my upcoming, not revealed, works. Of course, as an indie author, the cost (thousands and thousands) would come right out of my pocket, which means I will only offer it to people who genuinely read and review my work. But stay in touch, if I decide to go for it, I will announce it here <3
Till next time!
