I wish close-minded people would stop putting labels on creatives for whatever reason. I know best-selling authors who write about Texas, but live in the east and have never been here. One author noted that her best-selling series set in Montana is based solely on her online research. James Michener is a Texas author who writes award winning lengthy sagas set in a multitude of places, Hawaii, Poland, Caribbean. Alaska. I wouldn't describe his stories as "westerns". A good story is a good story, and hats off to the writer who can type THE END and entertain readers in the process.
