definition of Success. Feb. 25
I know what the definition of Success is. Well, at least I know according to how the world lives.
If I make enough money (whatever dollar amount that is....)
If I can attain several houses and plenty of cars (for what reason, really?)
If I can be promoted higher and higher up in my workplace
where I have a fancy title and able to make very important decisions
Where everyone knows my name and I appear in magazines and media for my all-too-important accolades. (They need to be trending)
And if you cannot attain this all-so-desperate attempt at prosperity, then you are not successful.
I will admit, there are days when I don't feel successful.
But let's see what God's Word says about success:
God says: Successful people devote themselves to Me and I establish their plans. “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” (Psalm 37:4, NLT)
God says: Successful people acknowledge their insufficiency and strive to do things in My Strength. “Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” (Psalms 1:1-3, NLT)
God Says: Successful people maintain their integrity. “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (Matthew 6:24, NLT)
God Says: Obedient people are successful. “‘Now’s your opportunity!’ David’s men whispered to him. ‘Today the Lord is telling you, “I will certainly put your enemy into your power, to do with as you wish.”’ So David crept forward and cut off a piece of the hem of Saul’s robe. But then David’s conscience began bothering him because he had cut Saul’s robe. He said to his men, ‘The Lord forbid that I should do this to my lord the king. I shouldn’t attack the Lord’s anointed one, for the Lord himself has chosen him.’ So David restrained his men and did not let them kill Saul…” (1 Sam 24:4-7, NLT)
God Says: Successful people are thankful for where they are, allow Me to elevate them, and are guided by My Spirit.
So next time you think to yourself... I'm not successful by the world's definition.
Maybe you should choose another Master to serve. One who calls you Beloved and would love to rewrite the pages of your story and who applauds you even in your tiny steps of obedience.
