I've not read any Ernest Hemingway, although I did read John Steinbeck's The Old Man and the Sea whilst at school as a home reader.

Derek Niven is the sports family history pseudonym of sci-fi author Derek Beaugarde.
Richard I've just realised that The Old Man and the Sea was a Hemingway novella. I'm getting it confused with a Steinbeck I read in my schooldays.
I've just realised that the novella that I was thinking of was The Pearl by John Steinbeck 1947.
