The Difficulty of Being an Indie
When it comes to self-promotion, I am the most inept at the task. Where do I begin? What is the best platform? Who even cares about what I am writing? These questions and many more make the task daunting. But, one thing this COVID season has taught me is that writing is not enough. Having a great idea is not enough. Putting a book together and making it able to be purchased is not enough. I am not good at self-promotion because I want this part to be easy. I want people to come in droves and pick up my book. But, this is not reality. The reality is that people will only come if they know. This isn't Field of Dreams where "if you build it, they will come." No, if you are an author, you are an author every day, and a marketing agent, and a public relations specialist, and a parent, and a spouse, and Google Chrome with 30+ tabs open all at the same time. But, you can do it. It takes time. It takes effort. But, you can do it.
