Current Reads + August TBR!

Hello, beautiful bookworms. Welcome back to chhaviandbooks, reviews and all! I’ve been away for a super long time, doing many (exciting) things, but I’m back to being a book reviewer now and it has honestly never felt better. If you want to know what amazing books I’m currently reading (and plan to read during this month), read on!

BOOK #1: The Haunting Of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

SYNOPSIS:  It is the story of four seekers who arrive at a notoriously unfriendly pile called Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a “haunting”; Theodora, the lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering its powers—and soon it will choose one of them to make its own.

I cannot explain in words how hooked I am to every line of this book. The writing. The descriptions. The characters. Ah, good lord.

BOOK #2: RADIO SILENCE BY ALICE OSMAN

SYNOPSIS: What if everything you set yourself up to be was wrong?

Frances has been a study machine with one goal. Nothing will stand in her way; not friends, not a guilty secret – not even the person she is on the inside. Then Frances meets Aled, and for the first time she’s unafraid to be herself.

So when the fragile trust between them is broken, Frances is caught between who she was and who she longs to be. Now Frances knows that she has to confront her past. To confess why Carys disappeared…

Frances is going to need every bit of courage she has.

I.am.so.excited.to.read.this.book. Ever since I heard Kat (youtube: paperbackdreamss) gush over Alice Osman and this book in particular, I’ve been dying to dive right into it. You hear that, exams? Just finish already. There are books waiting to be read by me.

BOOK #3: PET SEMATARY BY STEPHEN KING

SYNOPSIS: When the Creeds move into a beautiful old house in rural Maine, it all seems too good to be true: physician father, beautiful wife, charming little daughter, adorable infant son-and now an idyllic home. As a family, they’ve got it all…right down to the friendly car. But the nearby woods hide a blood-chilling truth-more terrifying than death itself-and hideously more powerful. The Creeds are going to learn that sometimes dead is better.

Okay, I shall admit it. I’m on a bit of a horror spree. I like ghosts. Also, no horror spree is complete without a King work. So pumped for this!

BOOK #4: LIGHT AS A FEATHER BY ZOE AARSEN

SYNOPSIS:

It was supposed to be a game…

Junior year is shaping up to be the best of McKenna Brady’s life. After a transformative summer, McKenna is welcomed into the elite group of popular girls at Weeping Willow High, led by the gorgeous Olivia Richmond. For the first time in a long time, things are looking up.

But everything changes the night of Olivia’s Sweet Sixteen sleepover. Violet, the mysterious new girl in town, suggests the girls play a game during which Violet makes up elaborate, creepily specific stories about the violent ways the friends will die. Though it unsettles McKenna, it all seems harmless at the time.

Until a week later, when Olivia dies…exactly as Violet predicted.

As Violet rises to popularity and steps into the life Olivia left unfinished, McKenna becomes convinced Olivia’s death wasn’t just a coincidence, especially when a ghost haunting her bedroom keeps leaving clues that point to Violet. With the help of her cute neighbour, Trey, McKenna pledges to get to the bottom of Violet’s secrets and true intentions before it’s too late. Because it’s only a matter of time before more lives are lost.

Keeping with the horror spree, I’m also super super super excited to be reading the published version of one of my favourite Wattpad novels of all time, Light as a Feather! This book was stunning as a Wattpad work, and I can’t wait to see what the new edition has in store for me.

That’s all I plan to read this month, let’s hope I have a good time (and hopefully, some nightmares!).

What are you reading this month? Let me know in the comments!
