Don’t Fear the Struggle…

“Do not fear the struggle, fear the lack of one,” Yoshi Parks.

Whitney hears this advice when she is faced with an unplanned life event—and her decision is key to her character development since she knows the road she is about to set out upon will be hard. Which road will she choose?

I just saw the WSJ article that questions simple happiness “A Good Life Doesn’t Mean An Easy One,” and so then read, “The Psychologically Rich Life Questionnaire,” in the Journal of Research in Personality by UVA professor Shighero Oishi, et al. that reports: “we suggest that happy experiences are not necessarily interesting, deep, or psychologically rich, and conversely that psychologically rich experiences are not necessarily pleasant.” In short, being open to new experiences and having the curiosity to push yourself toward them creates a psychologically rich life which can be distinct from a happy or meaningful life.

When writing our characters, we push them to be bold and to craft a psychologically rich experiences and to grow from these choices.  Do we succeed? Does Whitney stay true to her character? Read The Whitney Forbes Series to find out! Book three is free today!
