Nothing about him was real. From his rug to his spray on tan, the leathery old fart pontificating at the bar was a phony. Now the lush sitting next to him drooling in the peanuts, he was genuine.
Generally, I avoid dives. They’re dank, dark, depressing places with sticky floors. Unescorted females have a tendency to stand out. For tonight’s hunt, it was perfect.
“Those were the days when men were men. None of this mamsy pamsy equal rights and you’ve gotta be respectful nonsense.” He put his beer down so hard it splashed.
I told myself to be quiet, say nothing. It wasn’t going to happen. I know myself better than that. And silence is acceptance, right? At the very least it’s acquiescence.
