SooleyI am a big fan of John Grisham, especially his novels set in the world of sports. Having read Bleachers, Playing For Pizza, Calico Joe, and the Innocent Man, I eagerly picked up his latest work, Sooley. Having played college basketball myself, I thought I would love this story of a young Sudanese man who escapes the ravages of civil war in his home country to achieve basketball stardom here in the US. But I didn't love Sooley. The last 100 or so pages was typical Grisham - fast paced, taught with energy and conflict - but the bulk of the story that focused on Sooley's one year playing college ball was a bit slow for me. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I would love to hear the thoughts of others who've read this book.
