I woke up this morning to the news that my novel We Don't Matter won Honorable Mention in the Readers' Favorite International Book Awards for LGBTQ Fiction. This brought tears to my eyes as that particular novel came from a place of frustration at the state of our country and how certain groups are often treated. This is the second award it won this year and my third award total, as my novel Do Over won a bronze medal in regional fiction as well.
I took a long hiatus from writing to raise my children after a divorce and just recently came back it it in the last year and a half. I am so grateful for all the support I have received and while these awards are not necessarily the measure of the writer I am, they certainly don't hurt ;).
