A Magnolia League of Their Own

The Magnolia League (Magnolia League, #1) The Magnolia League by Katie Crouch

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book is definitely geared toward young adults, and though I couldn't really connect with the language of the young main character, Alex, and her Magnolia League high-school friends, I don't think I'm supposed to because I am not in this age bracket. (Sadly, I'm far from it. Dang) That being said, I thought The Magnolia League was a good read. The author did a great job of applying teenage slang and situations to the story--not too much sex but lot's of interest, which is totally normal for teenagers. What I enjoyed most was the hoodoo magic and folklore--not normal for teenagers. In fact, I will be sleeping with a fork under my pillow and burying a half can of lard in the back yard just in case. You never know when the boo hag's going to come for you.
