Upgrading My E-reader

Last night I caught a TV ad for the new Kindle Fire HD priced at $299, if memory serves me. I was working on different blog post with my laptop at the time. Anyway, it got me to thinking about upgrades to the latest and greatest version of something, such as in this case e-readers. From the brief ad, it looks pretty slick and cool. I don't know about other folks' situations, but $299 is a gob of green in our household. The price of gas is creeping back up. Sequestration is a big word tossed around a lot in these parts. The federal government is yoked by law to make drastic cuts in the budgets. El old laptop might bite the dirt anytime. My point is I'd have to think long and hard before I ever popped. My basic Kindle still serves me just fine. On the other hand, I can anticipate the excitement of getting a new one. Anyway, that's my e-reader story, and I'm sticking with it. For now, at least.

Randy I'm with you. As i understand it, the Kindle Fire is for movie watching and internet use as well as reading. I see no reason to spend that kind of money for something I already have. To me, a Kindle, or any other ereader, is just that, a reader.

Okay, that makes sense re: new Kindle used for its movie watching. I can already do that from my laptop, and it's okay enough. It'd be cool to play around with it with all the whistles and bells. I wonder if they'll come down any in price. Thanks, Randy.

Temple Its just an expensive new toy, but it would be fun.

Toy but fun. Exactly. Thanks, Temple. Couldn't have said it any better myself.

Phillip Thompson I don't know...I love my Kindle Fire. Besides having the portable library, I have a notebook app for those moments when the muses call, Pandora, my own music a couple of time-killer games for the inevitable waiting room, weather apps (big for me as a commuter). Plus laptop connectivity in the palm of my hand. I'm not going to get the HD version, but I'm not giving up my Fire, either.

Right, my wife was pointing out to me the Fire is more than just an e-reader. If I had one, I'd use it until it broke and then go with the HD. Thanks, Phillip.

Michele bookloverforever well, I got gift certificates to amazon from both my son and in laws. used them to get the kindle fire 7" tablet which I love because there is no limit to the number of books carried on the cloud. all the books on my first kindle are carried on the fire providing I keep it registered. I joined their "prime" club and get lots of free streaming movie/videos, I can access facebook too. I love it.

Sounds fabulous, Michele. I like hearing you port your books from your old Kindle to the new one. Plus streaming movies is a great feature.
