For the second year in the row, my lovely sister Candace is the captain of her Relay for Life team, the Biohazard Babes, at Victoria Hospital. Last year, the team of Paediatric Oncology Nurses raised over $10 000 for the hospital. Quite a feat, seeming as their original goal was $3000 and the team does not have the added advantage of a sponsor! (The hospital can’t sponsor itself.) This year, Candace and her teammates are getting an early start and have created a cookbook to help raise money for her team.

 

The cookbook is a collection of over 300 of the most scrumptious recipes from the hospital staff, friends and families. It is $15 and is now available. All the proceeds go toward the cancer program (LRCP) at the London hospitals. It makes a great gift and a wonderful Mother’s Day present!

 

WHAT RELAY IS ALL ABOUT

 

The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is more than just a fundraiser. Relays are overnight events where teams walk, run, or wheel around a track. We Relay to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

 

WHO ARE THE BIOHAZARD BABES?

 

“We are Paediatric Oncology Nurses at the Children’s Hospital of London Health Science Centre. On a daily basis we assist our patients and their families as they make their journey from diagnosis to treatment and, in many cases, beat cancer. Unfortunately, the journey is not that easy for all, some may run into complications related to treatment, or lose their battle altogether. We strongly believe that although all of our fighters are strong, they can’t do it alone!”

 

Candace needs an army of family and friends to help her team raise money for cancer research. She is even looking for people to sell copies from their home or desk at work.
