Buanniversary 2014!
It’s finally here! #Buanniversary 2014!
I can’t believe it’s already been a year since I stayed up until midnight to announce the long-awaited release of ‘The Perfect Mortals’ on Amazon and across the web. It was exhilarating; finally, my dream was one step closer to becoming a reality. I couldn’t tell you just how excited I was; I was over the moon! And since then, things haven’t stopped moving for me. I’ve been selling books, developing a fanbase, making connections with other authors, and adapting my writing style. I had my first competition with Jeremy Shory and the Raven Twins last year. I’ve been on the Authors on the Air radio network twice, and I even came in their Top Ten Authors of 2014. I’ve finalised the plot lines for the rest of the Buan Trilogy, as well as its various follow-on series, complete with developed characters and plot arcs. And, well, you guys have all been there with me to share in the experience. It’s been so much fun! This has been the first year of my life as an author, and it certainly won’t be the last.
But enough about that! We’re done with the past; what of the future?
Well, I’m glad you asked! 2014 heralds a great year for all of us! And, now, I have some news and those surprises I’ve been casually mentioning for the past month or so!
First of all, I start university this year! I’ll be taking a creative writing degree at a university where I live and go to college anyway, brilliant course with very high student satisfaction and great credibility. Most of the tutors for all the modules are professionally published writers in various areas of literature. I don’t think I need to tell you just how great this is; better writing skills, more diversity to my repertoire of abilities, and a better reading experience that I’ll be passing on to you! Isn’t that great?
Speaking of future reading experiences, I’ll hopefully be releasing ‘Company of Heroes’ within the next year! Still being edited to make way for the next surprise, this book is still being polished to a fine shine, but as soon as it’s done, you’ll be glad you waited! And ‘Disciples of Blood’ continues at a steady pace, and I’ll be speeding through that during the summer holiday in a few months in another 5,000 word a day challenge to get it all written and to bring the Buan Trilogy to a close; we’ll see some of the biggest twists I can think of, the best and most suspenseful drama, and an even closer look at the elusive L.C. After that, we really get into the deep stuff with where the saga’s going in the next trilogy.
But what about these big surprises?
Well… I really don’t know how to go about saying this first one, so I guess I’ll just come out and say it: ‘The Perfect Mortals’ is being picked up by a publisher. Yeah, that’s right. I know I’ve been a self-published author this whole time, and it’s been wonderful, but this is a huge opportunity to give a story like Buan the acclaim it deserves. The company, Great Minds Think Aloud Publishing, are a small-press group that were also behind bestsellers like ‘The Godling Chronicles’ by Brian D Anderson. I’m thrilled to have been taken on by such an impressive company, and I know this is gonna be the start of a beautiful partnership that can bring us both fame and success. This is why ‘Company of Heroes’ and ‘Disciples of Blood’ have sort of taken a back seat; I’m editing ‘The Perfect Mortals’ again for rerelease with GMTA in order to make an even better reading experience for you loyal fans. This edit includes completely rewritten scenes, additional details, changes to the prose, the removal of some spelling and grammar errors, and a lot more. The upcoming trailer for TPM will be released around the same time as the book itself. This is a huge thing for me; I can’t tell you how excited I am. I mean, the marketing is gonna be huge, there’s gonna be blog tours, interviews, a whole lot more than what I have now. I may even be able to visit the states or generally leave my house to go to events! I’m so happy right now!
And that’s not all; I still have one more big surprise for you.
What you may or may not know is, in addition to being a novel writer, I’m also an amateur voice actor. I’ve not been in anything massive; my main roles so far have been a line in my own trailer for TPM and a line in my friend’s upcoming Garry’s Mod video ‘Scout Con 2014’. However, I’m a diverse guy as far as my writing goes; while my main facet is fantasy like Buan, I’ve also recently started writing comedy in script form. And… Yeah. I’ve formed a group with a few other very talented voice actors, and we’re starting to make my script into an online audio series. You may have noticed me posting a link to a video on my Twitter page; that’s what I’m talking about. For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, you can find it here. The series, entitled ‘Zoolaplex’, is my new writing facet and my main VA project. It’s a cynical slice-of-life comedy series with cartoonish aspects thrown in, and the best part is there’s no visual element; nothing to see, and no narration, just like watching a TV with great speakers and a broken screen. I’m really hoping this becomes big, and I’m trying to drum up some groundswell for when we start recording in the June/July area. Hopefully before that we’ll be releasing some infomercial shorts to help and get some additional attention. But, rest assured, the books are my top priority; VA is fun and a great hobby, but the first thing on my agenda is my career as an author. ‘Zoolaplex’ is a way to help me expand my horizons and to help others expand theirs, too; we’re helping amateur VAs earn credits for their videographies and allowing indie bands and musicians to have their music played in certain scenes to help them as well. (However, if you know any big-time celebs who’d also be willing to lend their voices to a one-shot character, then great! Especiallyifit’sBryanCranston.) We’ve already set up a Twitter account for the show (@Zoolaplex) so you can go there for additional humour and to keep up with the series!
And… yeah. That’s pretty much it from me :) Thank you so much for this wonderful year of support; let’s make it the first of many more to come! Happy #Buanniversary! Stay tuned for more updates as time goes by!
