Teaser Tuesday

It's Teaser Tuesday!!  So right now I'm working hard on Irresistible which is due out on August 12th.  I scrapped most of what I had originally wrote because it just wasn't working, and now everything is flowing like wine at a country club dinner. I've got a much better grasp on these characters and am really loving the dynamics between them.
The problems I have with characters some times is that I start off with this idea of who they are, and I run with it. Then about halfway through they're resisting and I'm over here like

Picture to which they refuse.  By this point I'm getting frustrated and I realize they aren't  cooperating because I've got the wrong people.  I need to really thing about these characters and let them tell me who they are instead of me telling them.  It sounds crazy but trust me, it's legit.  By this point I'm frustrated, look over what I've written and realize it has to go. It's crap. Picture But that's when the magic happens. That's when chemistry develops between characters and the writing starts to flow.  What I'm writing now, well it's still crap because it's a first draft.  First drafts are supposed to be crap but hey, working in clay here, not marble.  If you saw the first draft of Changeling you would cringe so hard it would take a week to right yourself again.   Point is, I'm flowing again, the story is moving, and I'm loving what's coming of it.

So in this scene you get to see some of the relationship between the main character Willow, and her best friend Bryce.  We all have that one best friend who will always have our back. Someone we've got history with that you know if someone tried to hurt you, they would cut a b***h.    Enjoy. Picture Geez I love me some Sebastian. Bryce stopped and stared at me, his blue eyes wide.  “You think I’m here because I feel guilty?”

“Sometimes,” I admitted.  “I know that’s not the only reason but I think it has a lot to do with it.”

His eyes flashed and he shot me a dirty look.  “That has nothing to do with it Willow.  You’re my best friend. I’m here because I want to be.”

“Then why the hell are we fighting?”

“Because you have shitty taste in men and I don’t feel like watching you offer yourself up to get hurt again?”

“You’re one to talk about hideous taste,” I scoffed.  “You’re the one who dated Teenie Bailey.  She let you give her all your birthday candy and then ran off with Mikey Evans as soon as you did.”

He laughed loudly, his features softening.  “Oh my god.  We were seven years old Willow, and you broke her nose at recess and got detention for your trouble.  When are you going to let that go?”

“When she apologizes,” I insisted.  Bryce dropped back on to the couch next to me and leaned his head on my shoulder.

“I doubt she even remembers my name,” he smiled.

“Yeah but I’m sure she remembers mine.”   We laughed together and all the tension in the room dissipated until we were resting in easy silence again.

So this is where you tell me what you think and feed my hungry author ego.  :D  Happy Tuesday!
