How things change!

So today I had one of those awesome full-circle moments when I was offered the job of hosting the World Cup Cheer Mackay Spirit Challenge and it's got me thinking about when I was the pom pom girl with glitter in my hair...

It wasn't really that long ago. I think that first piccy was only taken back in 2011, just before I retired to have my 2nd baby. I was supposed to hang up my pom poms when I had my first, back in 2008, but just 6 weeks after I had Lila, we had a 'Pyramid' emergency and I had to fly to sub for someone else and somehow, was Team Captain again the very next year.

I loved Cheerleading. Although my new book Venom isn't about cheerleading, so much as finding that reason to fly during the foggy, swampish life phase that is being a teenager, it is one of the elements to the novel and seeing that it's only been 3 days since I published, it was very cool to be back in the thick of things but from a completely new perspective- getting to hand the trophies out instead of getting them!

Do I miss it? Sometimes, yeah. Once upon a time, cheerleading left this huge pit inside me that I thought nothing was going to fill. But it's been 3 years and I am doing just F-I-N-E. I love watching my daughters follow in my footsteps, though I do hope at least one out of 3 decides to write too!

Now writing is that thing that makes me roll out of bed in the morning. It's twice as exhausting, but twice as satisfying, and I'm finally where I belong; on the sidelines for real, cheering on the baby-boomers, and myself and my kids :)
