What is Jugaad

At some point in their lives every Indian has experienced Jugaad. Pronounced 'joo-gaardh', it is a Hindi word about innovation and creativity in all areas of life. It indicates the ingenuity necessary to achieve results with out-of-the-box thinking, at times offering even temporary fixes. Jugaad can also mean attaining your objective with whatever resources you have on hand. Just as we say in English, “Necessity is the mother of all invention”, jugaad is a celebration of fulfilling a need with lateral thinking and local inspiration. In essence, it is a tribute to native genius and lateral thinking.
Although a lack of resources is at the heart of Jugaad in many cases, those who have no limit on spending will also find acute ingenuity, inspiration, and creativity at its core.
For the purpose of this book,The Modern Mughal Mentality the term Jugaad will be defined as “obtaining your objectives by maximizing resources through thinking out of the box.”
