What Comes Down...
I know, I know, I let another three months go by without a word. And this time its not an update; its a forewarning, I guess. I alluded to this in an earlier post on Facebook, where I said that my books may be unavailable for a while. The fact of the matter is, there is no may about it. In five-ten days time, my books will be removed from all online vendors and retailers and the only copies left available will be the inevitable resold copies that people buy then sell on for double or triple the price. Of course, this is happening for a reason, and some of you might be able to guess this already.
My contract with GMTA/Ravenswood Publishing has come to an unfortunate, sudden, premature end.
Ill spare you all the details as to why this happened and what factors led to this outcome, but I will say that the decision was mutual and amicable in how it came about. There is no horror story that Ill be complaining about on my blog, calling people names or pointing fingers or even shaming characters, because theres nothing I can say that would actually justify any of those things. Im not going to call out any practices or cite any wrongdoings, because there are none. This is simply another divide in the road, and we each went a different direction. I had to take a few months after a certain incident in February to really reevaluate my position in this world and decide just which roads I wanted to go down. Blah blah blah, five months later this thing happened and I think itll turn out for the best for all involved. And, really, thats all anyone needs to know. In this situation its not about the why or the when or the how, but just the what, as in what happened, and what it means for the future.
To put it simply, all the rights that I signed over to GMTA back in September have been reverted back to me, which means Im now free to explore other options and opportunities and offers. While writing more of Disciples of Blood and continuing work on both the present and future episodes of Zoolaplex, Ill be submitting all three of the Buan books (including the unpolished/incomplete Disciples) to various agencies and publishers. In fact, Ive already started looking into my options and deciding which ones to pursue.
This is not a bad thing. This is merely a reevaluation and the beginning of another path that will, hopefully, lead me and my beloved books to a brighter future, one where I can share my stories with all of you and feel comfortable doing it. I dont know where Ill end up or what Ill have to do to get there. I dont even know how long itll take. But Ill get there. Theres nothing that can stop me from doing that, and Ill leave behind anything or anyone who tries.
There is no slowing down. There is no stopping. There is no giving up.
What comes down... will go up again.
Thank you, everyone, for sticking by me all these months. I can only promise that your patience will be repaid in the near future, somehow.
