Self-love and getting life to go your way

Self-love is the act of loving oneself to the degree that they put themselves first. This is not selfishness, but more a sense of selflessness. We need to look after ourselves first. After all, what good are we to others if we are not good for ourselves?

Many philosophers and scientists, such as Albert Einstein, have spoken about love as the universal source of everything. Through love, wars can be prevented, understanding and compassion gained and roads to peace, built. This doesn’t just apply to the love we offer our friends or strangers, but also of the love we offer ourselves.

The world in which we live is a living, breathing, thinking, feeling universe.

The universe is full of love in its true essence. You could even say, that the universe loves itself and through this love so much can be created of greatest benefit. If our universe is so loving and we are, much like an ocean, an individual drop of it, then how does this love refer to us? Does this not mean that as individual expressions of the universe, we must have enough love for ourselves? I think it does mean that, and more importantly, I think it means that we are deserving of our own love too. If this is the way that the universe works and it is through this way that the universe creates, then this is the way to get life to go the way we want it –  in line with the universe.

We can start this by doing simple things that have impact and make a difference.

1 – Positive thinking

Positive thinking gives us the ability to see challenges within new perspectives. The challenge itself may not change, but when we look at the situation from a perception of positivism, we see the solutions that are also present. By allowing ourselves to see the solutions, we free ourselves from the freedom of burden.

2 – Give yourself more credit

How many things have you done in your life that you are proud of? Probably many things. But how many things have you done to be proud of, and given yourself a pat on the back for? By acknowledging self-credit, we confirm to ourselves that we are worthy and good people. We won’t always be able to do things we are proud of, but that doesn’t mean we should ignore what we have done either.

3 – Forgiveness

No one is perfect. In fact, we are perfectly imperfect. When we make mistakes, as we all do, we must take time for a small period of grief. In this grief we acknowledge, without judgement, what we would like to do better the next time and we forgive ourselves for what we have done. Its pointless to keep punishing ourselves for our mistakes. This doesn’t change or erase the mistake. It doesn’t make anything better. All punishment does is keep us trapped on lower levels of thought, which in turn keep us in the same place. Forgiveness of ourselves is making a major breakthrough to self-love.

4 – Stop thinking in limitations

The limitation we have are all concepts of the minds set up by the ego to protect us. In truth, limitations don’t protect us at all. They keep us in stasis. We are unlimited beings with the capacity to unlimited thoughts. What we could not do yesterday, we can try again today and so, by accepting this, we open more roads to opportunities that are available to us.

5 – Every day is a new day

How we feel one day is really no reflection of other days. Each morning as we wake up, we are in fact reborn. Every morning when we wake, we can allow ourselves to have new experiences. In order to have these new experiences, we must release ourselves from our pasts and embrace the new that is to come. We can only do this if we love ourselves enough to move on and further, upwards and higher, whilst understanding that we are free to do this without judgment but love for ourselves.

Self-love brings us close to The Unseen where all potential exists. Our self-love is the key to abundance and it makes perfect sense. How can we have all that we deserve if we can’t even love ourselves?
