Robert Dennis Crumb (born August 30, 1943)— is an American artist, illustrator, and musician recognized for the distinctive style of his drawings and his critical, satirical, subversive view of the American mainstream.

Crumb was a founder of the underground comix movement and is regarded as its most prominent figure. Though one of the most celebrated of comic book artists, Crumb's entire career has unfolded outside the mainstream comic book publishing industry. One of his most recognized works is the "Keep on Truckin'" comic, which became a widely distributed fixture of pop culture in the 1970s. Others are the characters "Devil Girl", "Fritz the Cat", and "Mr. Natural".

He was inducted into the comic book industry's Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1991.

1998!

At this time Crumb wasn't interested in doing Zap any more. This fact is discussed in a few of the comic strips in here. It's quite interesting. Moscoso wanted more than anyone to keep Zap going, Crumb wanted it to die. The rest of the crew were somewhere in between. Based on the output in this volume S. Clay Wilson contributes quite a bit - the rest not so much.

We also get the first new comer to Zap with Paul Mavrides joining the team. He provides an outsider perspective on the fight between Moscoso and Crumb. Crumb refused to join the Zap jam they do each issue.

Just two Crumb pages.

I liked the 3 strips about the feud. The rest were alright.

Oh man! Here's when the Zap crew started to see some drama. And they lay it all out at the end. With a little history of the book and three perspectives on Crumb wanting out. Great stuff. Let's see some of my favorites!

Star Eyed Stella Drops Into Rotting Zombiesville:
Stella is back! This time she crash lands on Earth! Which is now full of rotting zombies! This story spans the majority of this issue, with a couple of small strips in between. But it's wild and wicked!

My Secret Date with Linda Blair:
A funny and sexy strip that could've easily turned into horror if they didn't get lucky! Pun intended!

Thirty Years of Zap:
It's nice to see all of this laid out. A little peak behind the curtains.

I've had it!:
Crumb's retelling of quitting the crew. The two comics following are different people's perspectives on the same event. It's fun to see. Another peak behind the comics curtains!

And tons more! Especially Blobman in this one!

so there was trouble at zap, to such a degree several artists give their own versions, crumb not wanting to keep beating the old horse is understandable, and if one were to be uncharitable you could say it's the artists who'd been less successful in comics outside of zap still fighting to keep it going. shelton seems to have a good sense of humour about the thing but he had less riding on it and wasn't expected to put in so much work. makes sense these last few issues are so moscoso heavy when he's pushing for the whole project
