Could’ve been interesting. Poorly written and terribly unorganized. Author is verbose and overuses her ‘cleverness,’ which amounts to so many pretentious statements that only insider opera buffs would get. Too much wittiness in every sentence is confusing and overkill for the reader. A slow tiresome read that lacks any sort of structure besides loose chronology. Also, less than half of the book is about Cecilia Bartoli - it should just be marketed as being about various opera stars.
Delightfully entertaining book about 'behind the scenes' at the Opera Companies, and a look into the personal life of some the well known stars of opera. Well written and researched by Pulitzer Prize winning author for WSJ, Manuela Hoelterhoff.
