A modern edition of "Confession Of St. Patrick" and related texts including his "Epistle To The Christian Subjects Of The Tyrant Coroticus," "St. Fiech's Metrical Life Of St. Patrick," and "The Tripartite Life Of St. Patrick."
I only read the confessions from this, but for any one interested in late antiquity and early ecclesiastical history in the British isles, this is an invaluable source.
Inspiring and convicting. I read this testimony of Patrick's life and ministry while traveling through many of the places these events took place. This simple yet gripping account reveals Patrick's heart for Christ and his love for the lost. This is a must-read for missionaries, pastors, and lay-ministers, and a "strongly recommended" read for everyone. Patrick humbly and plainly recounts how God mercifully, graciously, and lovingly worked in his life, and powerfully worked in and through him as he brought the gospel message to Ireland. Brushing aside the many myths and legends surrounding Patrick, this document gives a plain and honest record of the struggles and blessing Patrick faced during his ministry in Ireland. Having spent almost three weeks in the Emerald Isle, I saw firsthand that Patrick's impact on the culture and landscape of Ireland's is undisputed. This confession by Patrick's own hand, however, gives a sense of the greater, long-term legacy that God accomplished through this humble servant.
A foundational read for enthusiasts of medieval and ecclesiastical history, but this translation had me pulling out my rusty Latin skills a little too often.
