When I was growing up I never thought of being an author. I was a terrible speller and didn't want to write any more than I had to. I wanted to be a tap dancer when I grew up. After a few years of teaching junior high and high school, I wrote my first novel. It was a surprise to discover that I liked making up stories and writing them down. I liked it so much that eventually I stopped teaching and became a fulltime writer.

Besides novels for children and young adults, I've also told stories by writing scripts for television and the movies.

I live on the top floor of a sixteen-story building near the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. From my apartment I have a view of Manhattan that includes the Empire State Building and the Plaza Hotel. In my free time I draw, paint, and read. I still love to dance.

Some people think that a writer's life is lonely. But when I'm writing a story I don't feel lonely because I am actively involved with lots of interesting people – the characters in my books. I love knowing that some day readers will get to know these characters, too. If you are one of my readers I hope you have as much enjoyment in reading my stories as I have writing them.

Something I appreciate about this series is how smart the three girls are, even though the books themselves are written for young readers. Lulu, Pam, and Anna are quick to act in situations and are good at coming up with different plans.

The title of the book doesn't seem to quite fit, as it takes half of the book before the ponies are stolen (and the blurb makes it seem more dramatic than it is, since it's not much of a mystery). The focus is more on Tommy and Mike.

However, even with knowing everything would end up all right, it's fun to see how the Pony Pals go about solving the various problems, and things got pretty serious after the ponies went missing.

The ending did seem just a little bit mean, but I assume Tommy's line was a lie, which is why the Pony Pals responded the way they did. If so, then it serves him right. :P

Rivalry with a couple of boys in town makes this story interesting. I would be curious to see them again and hope we do as they added some interesting conflict to the series.

I'm not sure I agreed with how the Pony Pals dealt with the situation regarding the campfires in the woods. It's a hard one to go. There's a great deal of understanding shown for the one boy's financial situation, which makes me like the Pony Pals more for the empathy they show. So maybe yes, it's ok after all.

As usual, an interesting tale and worth reading if you've followed the Pony Pals this far.
