With quotes by famous people both past and present, short stories and examples of true friendship, Scripture verses and author commentary, this gift book about friendship has it all. Motivational speaker John Maxwell's enthusiasm and encouragement make you want to be a better friend and to give this colorful book to one.
John Calvin Maxwell is an American author, speaker, and pastor who has written many books, primarily focusing on leadership. Titles include The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader. Some of his books have been on the New York Times Best Seller List.
"The glory of friendship is not in the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is in the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him."
This book will make you realize the value of real friendships in your lives.
I received this as a gift 13 years ago. I picked it up and re-read it, after finding it buried in a pile of "stuff". It gave me a warm feeling, not only to think of the friend who gave it to me, but of my other friends, too, and how richly I've been blessed. Some writings have inspired me to become a better friend, to take more time, to show my love in tangible ways.
Friendship is a beautiful thing and so this book. Reading this book pages to pages makes me feel emotional about what I believe as friendship. There are also lots of wise words (great wise words) that can be reflected into our life.
Some books I own I picked up when I was younger, but I've yet to read them before I've lost interest. This is such a book. I'm honestly not sure why I went ahead and read it, other than it was a quick read, but...
This book is full of quotes and stories on friendship. It is a pretty good collection, and I think it succeeds well with its goal. I'm not sure if the term "flash non-fiction" exists, but that's what the stories in this are. Still, they do a great job at simplifying events and details while still remaining poignant and getting their message across.
I also think this book was well-designed, and the look and color scheme gives it a friendly feel--exactly what you would want with a book on friendship.
So, there's nothing wrong with this book at all, and I likely would have enjoyed it when younger, but it just didn't interest me. I'd say my actual enjoyment was two stars, though I'm giving it three simply because there aren't any actual flaws to it.
There are too few books written on friendship. This one is a nice simple one to remind us all. It's a good one to keep around and pick up from time to time. One to adorne the home collection.
I loved how it touched my heart and soul. The stories are inspirational and it really teaches people a lesson in life with quotes about friendship by famous people in the past and present. I give this book a 5/5 rating and I recommend this book for everyone to read.
