I made a deal with a demon. Now I'm sleeping in his bed. I hate Ford Arc. I can’t stand his quirky smile, his dark sense of humor, and his obsession with pain and domination.
He’s the ultra-wealthy son of a rival family and I was raised to find him repulsive.
I despise him, right up until I need his help.
My grandfather wants to marry me off to the first eligible man he can find or else he’ll pull support for my addict mother’s rehab clinic.
So I cut a deal with that demon: I agree to help Ford win control of his family’s business and he promises to make sure my mother gets the best help his endless money can buy.
Now I’m Ford’s and he’s more demanding than I ever dreamed: we will live in the same house, sleep in the same bed, shower in the same shower at the same time—
But he’s keeping a secret from me.
A secret that’s going to ruin everything.
Welcome to Ford and Kat's story! Ruined with a Promise is a steamy enemies to lovers romance with some good twists and exciting character arcs, so dive right in and enjoy! As always, it's a full-length standalone with no cliffhanger and a guaranteed happily-ever-after.
Toxic families, love, redemption and salvation. Great story!
Loved Ford (MMC) and Kat (MFC). Both come from toxic, wealthy families with patriarch grandfathers who raised them. Both grandfathers are controlling and there is no love lost in either family. Kat, always made to feel less by her family, is controlled by her grandfather with threats of withdrawing support for her addicted mother (his daughter). Ford's grandfather has pitted his granchildren against each other so that none are friends and controls them all with promises of being his heir. Both patriarchs hate each other over some long ago feud that none of the other remaining family even remembers. One wants to ruin the other. As a result, schemes and plans are made that, of course, go awry.
Utimately this is a story of two people never really having known love, who agree to get together for their own reasons, but end up finding love. It's about how they come to realise the lie they've been living, that they don't want that life and don't want to end up like the others in their families. It's about finally knowing what they DO want and finding the strength and courage to stand up for themselves, break away from their toxic families, and find happiness.
Their story is not without its struggles. Old habits die hard, the grandfathers are master manipulators still conspiring to get their own way. This is a slow burn to start, but truths are left too long unrevealed and just when the flames are taking hold, events occur that throw a bucket of ice water on those flames . But that initial spark never dies. So while Ford, seeking absolution and to prove his love, breaks all ties from everything he thought he'd wanted and does something selfless, without strings attached, so that Kat can be truly free of her toxic family; Kat learns to standup for herself and eventually, because of Ford's actions, is able to walk away. His selfless act also gives the recipent (Kat's Mom) the freedom she's needed from her toxic family and finally puts her in a place to want to get better and seek redemption after years of addiction. In the end, this is a story of love and salvation. 4.5 stars.
3.25 I liked Ford and Katherine's story a bit more than Carmine and Brice's story. I do see a pattern in this series whereas you have characters with little self-esteem always trying to be worthy of their crazy ass families who are master manipulators using them for their personal gain. They play our characters like pieces on a chess board with them being none the wiser. The level of degradation these old men inflict on their children and grandchildren is astounding. It's disgusting how awful Kat's grandfather is; a super rich prick that thinks everyone owes him. The same goes for Ford's grandfather who is another psycho that gets off on power and winning. The worst part of all of this is that our characters are drawn into these games early in this book which sets the backdrop for the storyline that follows with all it's pitfalls and unnecessary drama. There is plenty to this storyline going forward w/o the constant threat of these two old fools who choose to manipulate everyone around them at any cost.
Ford and Kat are caught up in this "twisted logic" and must cut through lies and deceit to finally see by books' end how they have been played by these evil men into doing their dirty work. This story is based upon a decade's old version of the Hatfield vs., the McCoy's where both characters are lured into getting dirt on the others' families by seduction, engagement and marriage. The risk and the consequences are very high for each character as they develop a bond to outsmart their families.
Kat's character begins as a strong woman only to have her grandfather dictate to her by means of blackmail (keeping drug addict mom in rehab) what she will do and when she will do it. I hate that the MFC's in this series have been so weak minded and submissive to an old man's insanity to the point of almost never finding their own happiness. Kat's character literally gets shit on by her grandfather and cousin, not once but many times before the book ends. It takes almost an entire book for her to recognize what she has in Ford and what an animal her grandfather is. Too slow on the uptake for me to give this story a higher rating.
Ford's character is a man faced with becoming his families' heir by giving his GF the dirt on Kat's family. Both characters must work through allot of drama and soul searching before they unite and conquer these dreadful men in their lives. Ford never counted on finding love and Kat never thought she deserved anyone loving her. Both characters are very damaged in this novel and are faced with life alternating decisions by books end.
The story had a crazy but good storyline. The Atlas group make a cameo appearance before the end of this book.
This book is one that you sit down and don’t get back up until the last page is read. It is charming and romantically suspenseful at the same time. The superb character development is something recognized immediately.
You will fall in love with the two main characters as they navigate their way to each other. Ford has a perfectly, sinful and dirty mouth and Kat is a sweetheart. They both deserve a better experience than what life has afforded them thus far. The question is, can they find their happily ever after if they marry each other?
This book is well thought out, organized, well written and the reader will fall in love with the main characters.
This book wasn’t at all what I thought and although I haven’t read very many books by B.B. Hamel in the past few years it had a different feel. It’s simple and touching. From the beginning I had so much sympathy for Kat and Ford. In similar but also slightly different ways they’ve both been emotionally and/or physically abused by their blackmailing and manipulative families. They’ve been convinced if they just act or do something a certain way they can find a way to please their grandfathers and finally be loved and accepted. How they come together is unconventional but they both have almost identical reasons for marrying each other. It doesn’t take long for them to grow and find the strength to stand up for themselves and realize they don’t want to become the people they’ve spent a lifetime trying to please.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
kat, idk what to feel about her. she lets her family stomp all over her. i know that's what she's used to and probably as years gone by became natural to her. but i mean doesn't she know when enough is enough? she should do better and she can do better. she's feisty and sassy when it comes to ford but can't speak for herself when it comes to her family. i'm getting tired of her feeling so little and being thrown aside. she doesn't deserve it, her family is freaking awful. she should've just walk away. i really want her to get a backbone but up to 80% of the book she's still a pathetic mess (her word). maybe she's just a better person, but there's only so much chance you can give.
she did eventually fight back, but i think it's way too late for me. i've been stressed out most of the book because of her being spineless.
While parts of this standalone were good, there were aspects that were not. First, I felt the story was somewhat unrealistic. Second, the two families were so typical of the uber rich, loaded with unlikeable characters. The MCs were weak, but on the plus side, they did redeem themselves in the end, and they did have an undeniable chemistry. There is a nice HEA, although the ending did feel rushed.
RUINED WITH A PROMISE by BB Hamel is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, erotic, romance story line focusing on twenty five year old heiress Katherine ‘Kat’ Stockton, and thirty year old heir to the Arc Restaurant chain Bradford ‘Ford’ Arc. RUINED WITH A PROMISE is set in the same world as the author’s BEAUTIFUL CORRUPTION, and the group known as the Atlas Organization.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Kat and Ford) RUINED WITH A PROMISE follows in the wake of the demands by the Arc and Stockton patriarchs. The Arcs and Stocktons are bitter enemies, and as such Ford Arc is being blackmailed by his grandfather to marry Katherine Stockton. In the meantime, Katherine aka Kat is considered unworthy of the Stockton name, in the face of her mother’s addictions, and as such has been bullied by everyone including family and so-called friends. Forced into a marriage of convenience, Katherine opts to choose her own husband, accepting Ford Arc’s offer of proposal and marriage, a marriage predicated upon betrayal and lies. As Katherine begins to fall for the man who will destroy her heart, Ford quickly discovers that his place in the family has been usurped by someone else. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Ford and Kat, and the fall-out when the truth is revealed.
The relationship between Kat and Ford begins twelve years earlier when Ford takes aim at the people bullying our story line heroine. Always on the outside looking in, Kat finds she is guilty by association because of her mother’s troubles, and as such, is often dismissed by her family including the grandfather whose care is contemptuous and unsympathetic. Betrayed and emotional abused, Katherine is willing to sacrifice herself for the good of the family. Bradford Arc has never known love, having grown up at the knee of his abusive grandfather. Told he would inherit the mantle of CEO of Arc Enterprises, Ford quickly discovers that his grandfather’s control extends beyond his immediate future. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Kat’s grandfather, her vindictive cousin Sara Lynn, and her mother Jackie: Ford’s grandfather, as well as Ford’s friends and members of the college club the Atlas Organization-Carmine and Brice (Beautiful Corruption); Gareth, Evander and Lanzo.
RUINED WITH A PROMISE is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, forgiveness and love. The premise is twisted and edgy; the romance is spirited yet tender; the characters are desperate, broken and determined.

Such a simple story with poignant important lessons in life. Kat endured such "pain, shame and self hatred" all at the hands of and because of the family that was suppose to love her but didn't. Ford was practically raised by his ruthless grandfather who wanted an heir just like himself. At the beginning Ford was willing to do anything for his grandfather to become heir. But after spending time with Kat she showed him true and unflinching loyalty and feelings. It made him feel ashamed but did not change his promise to his grandfather. Kat's only reason for allowing her family to walk all over her was 1. she did not know any different 2. she did not know how and 3. every thing she did was for her mother who was her grandfather's youngest daughter who shamed and disappointed him. So in order to keep her grandfather from cutting her mother off and stop helping her, she did what ever grandfather wanted. She sacrificed her life for the love she had for her mother. Ford never had experienced that type of love and devotion ever. But he started understanding the he spent time with Kat. But his evil grandfather saw that Ford started to have feelings for Kat and ruthlessly sabotaged their relationship. Kat walked away brokenhearted and had no choice but to go back and grovel at her grandfather's feet. Ford had his work cut out for him if he ever wanted Kat back. He would have to give up everything he worked for his whole life if he wanted to pursue Kat. Thankfully Kat's mother ended up being a godsend instead of repeating what she always did in the past.
An excellent heartfelt story of two people who belonged together and pulled apart by their rich and powerful families. A must read. I highly recommend.

Reasons I enjoyed this book: Emotional Funny Inspirational Realistic Romantic Tear-jerker Unpredictable Witty
– So much pain, demands and control going on in this one so buckle up once you start you won’t stop until the last page has been turned so hang on. Kat sweet, the black sheep of the family paying daily hasn’t let everything she has been through break her especially since all her pain is caused by family who was supposed to love her, she doesn’t even look like her family tall, blond, blue eyes where she is curvy read hair, green eyes. A grandfather who is as deadly as a rattlesnake using her mother’s addiction to control her threats to stop the funds for her rehab and all the things, she has been through makes you want to reach in and give her a huge hug. Ford sexy as all get out who have endured plenty at the hands of his grandfather who is also cruel, controlling and calculated but he wants to forge his own way in order to do that he has to strip his grandfather of all control. But his grandfather and her grandfather hate one another. What better way for his grandfather to ruin her family than in forcing a marriage on them especially with her grandfather trying to marry her off to the best deal. So, the two of them hook up with a plan that will provide for her mother and allow him to gain control but neither of them took into account fate would take the control or the attraction they feel or the magnetic pull between them being too strong to ignore especially with him being tasked to find out all the weaknesses her family has but his heart won’t allow his grandfather hurt her but will things go as planned, will she tell him she actually like his darkness, his possessiveness, will he gain freedom away from his grandfather, will her grandfather get what he deserves, and can they find happiness away from their trenchers families?.

This book features Kat and Ford. They are both from rival families but are so similar without even knowing it.
Kat is the scapegoat of her family. Her mother is an addict and her grandfather uses that fact to control her with the threat of removing rehab facilities if she doesn’t comply, the whole family is cruel to her and because she’s different she takes the brunt of it.
Ford is another whose grandfather is mean and calculated and in control manipulating Ford and trying to force his own way. There is a hint of physical abuse too although this happens off page.
Ford and Kats families hate each other but when Kats grandfather says she must marry in order to be a valuable asset to the family Fords grandfather sees an opportunity to take advantage and ruin his enemy’s family once and for all.
Sounds simple, but what neither elder considers is that together Kat and Ford strengthen each other, they have pure unbridled passion and they teach each other that they don’t need to suffer under their families names.
It’s not all plain sailing and there are twists and turns throughout with lots of inner dialogue of the two main characters as they doubt themselves and their feelings.
It was well written and I found myself championing both characters and really hoping for a happy ever after.
If you’re looking for spice I will say Ford sure has a way with words and his dirty talk is delicious!

Every time one of BB’s books lands in my library it’s like Christmas for me! I absolutely love her writing style, her characters are well written & I’m never ever disappointed. It’s always exciting to dive into one of her books, & once I start reading I can’t stop. Ruined W/A Promise was really good. I loved Ford, wanted to smack him a little, but ultimately I loved him. He had every intention to destroy Kat, but he couldn’t. All he wanted to do was please his grandfather, & all his grandfather needs is for him to marry Kat, & get secrets about her family. And poor Kat, that girl my heart felt for. She’s been treated so horribly by her family, was never good enough, until now. Her grandfather needs her to marry to strengthen the family, & in return he’ll provide care for her mother. It’s the last thing she wants, so when Ford proposes they marry & he’ll care for her mom, she agrees. But as they spend more time together, Ford realizes he can’t hurt her, he finally realizes what he has w/her. Unfortunately so does his grandfather, & he’s determined to destroy it telling Kat everything. I really wasn’t sure what to expect as the ending was fast approaching & Kat finally had her freedom f/everyone & everything. I thought the worst for a second, & was holding my breath. But as always BB gives us a happy ending & HEA. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
When Love Wins - Ford and Kat were brought up by very strict grandparents, who for one reason or another had been feuding for years. Each of them had been seeking approval from their respective grandparents for years, so when they were asked to snoop on the other’s family lives, they were conflicted.
Unfortunately, what was meant to be a fake relationship for the purposes of a beneficial agreement, turned everything real and just as they finally acknowledged their feeling for each other, Ford’s grandfather turned their lives upside down. It took time apart from each other and an act of subterfuge, but they finally realised they were meant to be together.
Before I start reading any books written by B. B. Hamel, I make sure I have enough snacks and a bottle of wine ready, then I switch off my phone and put a ‘DO NOT DISTURB’ sign on my bedroom door, because once I start reading, there is no chance I will take a break until I finish reading.
This was a truly fantastic story, that you will definitely want to share. I really enjoyed reading Ford and Carmine’s stories, so I am really looking forward to reading Gareth, Evander, and Lanzo’s stories.

This book features two people in Texas high society families. First there is Katherine, Kat, Stockton. She is the daughter of the black sheep in her family. And no one ever lets her forget it. The use her mother’s addiction as a means to control every aspect of her life. And now she is expected to marry and produces heirs. Even though she has never fit in with the tall, willowy, blond and blue eyed family. Being red headed, green eyed, and curvy. But the list she is presented are all more of the same.
Then there is Bradford, Ford, Arc. He is the grandson that is expected to take over when his grandfather retires. That is if he can pass this last test. There is no love lost between the Arcs and the Stocktons. Nobody knows what started the rivalry. But it is a bitter feud. Ford’s grandfather tasks him with wooing Kat and learning the Stockton’s weaknesses. At first he agrees. It’s just business. But somewhere along the way Kat becomes more.
Can these two bury the hatchet and end the feud? Will Ford cave under the pressure and hurt Kat? Will Kat ever forgive him if he does? Their road to a HEA is twisted. And I wasn’t sure it would happen.
I did receive an advance copy for my honest review.
I don’t know if I really want to classify this book as enemies to lovers since technically Kat and Ford weren’t enemies it was actually their families. Kat has been psychologically abused by her family. Since her mother is an addict and they don’t know who Kat’s dad is, she has been treated differently than the rest of her family. To make matters worse she looks completely different than the rest of her family too. Her grandfather has demanded that she marry one of the selected men chosen and then he will agree to help her mother. Ford on the other hand is promised the leadership role in the family company if he marries Kat and finds out all of her families secrets. Kat and Ford agree to marry each other that way he gets what he wants and he promises to help her mother become clean. Kat does not know about the deal Ford made with his own grandfather. Although Kat was meek she also had some underlying strengths. Ford on the other hand initially seemed very self centered, as time goes on you can see he does have some internal struggle with what he is doing to Kat. As always BB Hamel’s books never fail to keep me engaged. I finished this book in one day. I loved it. There are some steamy moments.
Riveting Enemies to Lovers Romance I always loved BB Hamel’s writing style and this enemies to lovers steamy romance was no different. All her life Kat Stockton has been trapped, cornered and hurt by her family as they have led her to believe she is worthless. According to her grandfather she is the mistaken mix of a junkie daughter and some gutter-rutting stranger. Now that she is twenty-five, her grandfather says it is time for her to step up and be a part of the family by getting married to the proper candidate. Ford Arc’s Grandpop decides Ford should be that candidate so he can ruin the Stockton family. Ford’s willing to do it if it means he will become the head of the Arc Legacy. This is a captivating storyline with intriguing twists and turns. The characters have painful pasts full of manipulation by their families that they need to over come to create their own pathway in life to love and happiness. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kat (h) has been controlled and dominated by her grandfather and other family all of her life, and just as she’s started to find a small degree of freedom with a job of her own, her grandfather wants her to marry a man of his choosing or he’ll stop providing rehab support for his own addict daughter, her mother. Ford (H) is likewise controlled by his own grandfather who wants him to wed and use Kat, or he’ll no longer be the chosen family heir which Ford desperately wants. Ford convinces Kat that they can be the means to one another’s ends, even if he withholds his full reason for wanting to marry her. Ultra-hot and steamy sort-of enemies to lovers romance, with lots of family twistedness. Lovely to see Kat and Ford both grow as they seeks their freedom and independence, as well as Ford’s support of Jackie.
Kat is found wanting mostly due to her addictive mother. At age 25 she has an “opportunity” to prove her worth - by marrying well. Her options are vanilla and boring. Older and unattractive.
Ford is from a rival family. He has been told if he ruins Kat and her family he will succeed his grandfather in the family business. Let the wooing begin.
Kat is not fooled. She learned early he liked to hurt others. He does seem interested in her, but that way lies insanity Ford has never had to work to get a woman’s attention. Jealousy at seeing Kat date is a new experience.
Hold on to your hats. To say more might give things away - beyond what is shared in the blurb. But be warned this author will always provide a gritty, raw and wonderful story.

Another great story from B. B. Hamel. It’s intriguing and captivating. I was hooked from the first page and couldn’t wait to get through to the end. This is a story of power and control, acceptance, dysfunctional family dynamics, and love. The characters are fascinating and the chemistry between the two is intense. It’s exciting and beautifully written. This is one of those stories that’ll suck you in and not let go. I enjoyed watching Ford and Kat grow as they find their freedom and independence from their families. This was highly addictive and entertaining. I definitely recommend reading it and look forward to reading more stories about the guys from the Atlas Organization. Keep putting them out and I’ll definitely keep reading them.

4.5 Stars!! This is the story of Ford Arc and Kat Stockton. Ford thinks he is doing what he needs to in order to take control of his family. Kat is doing what she needs to protect her mother and get out from under her family. Their families hate each other from a feud that goes back generations, but this is Texas, and they have long memories in the South. Kat is sweet though her family is awful. They don't appreciate what they had in her. Will Ford take advantage of Kat to get what he wants? Will she do what her grandfather wants? Will Kat finally stand up for herself? Good story and great ending. Loving this series.
I voluntarily wrote this review from reading an advanced copy of this book.
Loved Ford and Kat’s story. Poor Kat Stockton has lived with her grandfather always feeling unworthy and unloved. She’s the outsider within her own family. Now’s here’s her chance to gain her grandfather’s approval and help her drug addicted Mom. Ford Arc and his family see the Stockton family as arch enemies. The story line was well written as Kat is to chose a husband of her grandfather’s choice and the more she encounters Ford, she wonders why he keeps insinuating himself into her life. Should she marry Ford the enemy? What are his real motives? Is he the better option, can she help her grandfather in a different way by marrying Ford? Will her conscious allow her to be used yet again by family? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This author has great characters, and I enjoyed this one.
On the heels of Carmine and Brice's story (don't know them? Read Beautiful Corruption), Ford and Kat have a tough path to their HEA.
Ford and Kat have similar experiences of emotionally damaging family drama that have pushed them around for a long time. I was frustrated throughout this read with their families, and what was asked of these two. The chemistry and steamy scenes are great, and I really liked the connection between these two.
I enjoyed this read and couldn't turn the pages fast enough! This author consistently provides engaging and entertaining reads. I also recommend reading the numerous other works from this talented author.

Secrets and broken promises can really break a person??
It was great to see The Atlas Organization all together again!! I still not sure what Ford actually does I mist of missed that but I do remember his friends. Family can be your worst enemy and it is worse when they use you for their own vendetta. Whatever happened to unconditional love? Ford and Kat were doomed from the start, they both had a rough childhood starving for love, acceptance and making something they worked hard for that brought them happiness. This story has so many life lessons or is worth the read. Hop over to KU and read for free with membership you might even find some other Mafia stories you will.enjoy. Happy Reading
I loved Kat and Ford and all of their back and forth. I love how Ford really and truly does fall first no matter what he does to try and not admit it but the pull these two have for one another is undeniable. All Ford has wanted to do is please his grandfather and run the family business that is until he meets Kat and his whole world is thrown into a tail spin. Kat for everything she has been through and the way she is treated is one amazing character. I loved her growth and watching her become strong and be able to stand up for herself. The spice with these two is definitely hot hot hot... Another win for me!!
Ruined with a Promise by author B.B. Hamel. This book is connected with Beautiful Corruption- I don’t not know the series name or if it’s technically a series- yet the books are connected through the characters. Anywho, Ruined with a Promise is absolutely brilliant- it’s gritty, brutal and heartbreaking. Yet there’s this strength and it’s enticing. The characters must realize some facts before it’s too late- this one will have your emotions running wild. It’s a B.B. Hamel book, did you ever expect anything less. Enjoy!!
