Rate this book

I really enjoyed this book. I am glad the Hulk was in here as well, as I really enjoyed Peter David's run on the Hilk and the different Hulk forms/personalities. The artwork is awesome (personally I prefer the oldrr Peter Parker), the story is good as well, with a good helping of action.

Spider-man has been getting Intel from a certain nameless bar. Could someone have noticed? Now with a magical threat Spider-man and the Black Cat will need some help to survive. However can the resident doctor stand up to old deitity magic?

If I have one complaint about this book it is that there are too many guest stars in the book. I do like the interaction between the characters but there are too many extras.

Another great edition to the Symbiote Spider-man universe. Good story, great artwork and a nostalgic feel. The book finishes with thumbnail varient cover gallery.

This was so fun!

Peter and Felicia target some norn stone but when Karnilla comes in and sends them to crossroad dimension where Hulk is trapped, their insane adventures start. Dr Strange and Felicia learn of Karnilla and try to rescue Peter but the stone bonds itself with Hulk and makes him something else and then enter deviants and vs eternals and the final fight with Karnilla when she gets the Norn stone and its mayhem and too much travelling around and its perfect!

Its a mess of a story in a way but lives true to its title with the heroes travelling through so many locations and interesting stuff with the Hulk and Karnilla as a villain here was well done and I like the inclusion of Ikaris here too and the ending while it doesn't end in a big fight it does show their insane adventures and another ch. in the ever expanding Symbiote saga! so yeah give this a read!

This could have been a fun romp through various bits of eighties Marvel, and got away with the plot making minimal sense, and the weird infelicities in the script, and even the sodding Eternals, if only it had art which vaguely suggested the era, instead of the airbrushed softcore stylings of Greg bloody Land.

A symbiote-possessed Spider-Man runs into a myriad of characters pursuing a Norn Stone across dimensions, while the Black Cat and Doctor Strange work to bring him home.

Crossroads is the absolute epitome of a waste of time. It's got more characters than it knows what to do with, and throws them in for little to no reason. I'm sure Ikaris of the Eternals was only there to vaguely tie-in to the new movie (which he doesn't), while Kang, Rocket Raccoon, Ulik the Troll, and more all turn up to be a nuisance for a few pages before buggering off again. It's like Peter David decided to throw everything at the book to see what sticks, and none of it does. The whole contrivance of the plot is solved by Black Cat and Doctor Strange, rendering everything else pointless, and considering the idea of these Symbiote Spider-Man books is to tell more symbiote-related stories, the black costume barely plays a role in this one at all.

Plus it's still Greg Land on art, so Hulk looks great, Spider-Man's neat, and then Black Cat and Karnilla pr0nface their way into every issue and make me uncomfortable. Eh.

The Symbiote Spider-Man books have been exhibiting diminishing returns for a while now, and this latest mini-series is easily the best example of that. Better to quit before things get even worse, if you ask me.

This got pulled in so many different directions that I started to think it was going to be horrible... but then I just relaxed and let myself go on the ride. Canon or not doesn't matter when it comes to symbiote stuff.
Highlights:
- After saving the president from Chameleon, Spidey thwarts the heist (with the help of Black Cat) of a Norn Stone by Moondark for Karnilla, the Norn Queen. A stone of great power enhancement, she wants it to secure her power base in Nornheim.
- Spidey gets sucked into a portal and is able to take the stone with him. But... finds himself facing off against the Hulk! After a brief enhancement of his powers, Hulk takes the stone from him and another portal comes along...
- This time, they are in a prehistoric time/dimension that closely resembles early Planet of the Apes, including Devil Dinosaur and the ape-like Moon Boy. When the locals try to sacrifice Bruce to a giant spider, he connects with the stone and becomes something that looks close to an alien xenomorph, calling himself Brian.
- The next portal takes them to the ships of the Eternals and the Deviants. Everyone wants this stone!
- It takes Odin's intervention to stop all the craziness.

What will this title bring in the future?
Recommend... always a fun action romp.

Symbiote Spider-Man: Crossroads TPB
Collects issues 1-5.
What a fun read with tons of great guest stars!

Pete’s back in the black costume for this journey.

A smiling female hires C-list villain Moondark the Magician to steal a Norn stone.
Black Cat and Spidey spoil the theft. Karnilla, the Asgardian Norn Queen, reveals herself. Spidey retrieves the Norn stone from Karnilla’s grasp as she spells the Web-Slinger to the Crossroads dimension. Enter the Incredible Hulk. Pete holds his own in battle with the Jade Giant.

The two of them are transported to the Valley of the Flame. Enter Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur (and does Devil Dinosaur look fearsome? Hell yes.). Banner, now in possession of the Norn stone, is captured by a tribe Moon Boy calls the Killer Folk who plan to sacrifice him to Long Legs, a giant spider. Enter the Guilt Hulk, another Banner persona, who lays waste to Long Legs.

Meanwhile, Black Cat arrives at the Sanctum Sanctorum, seeking the aid of Dr. Strange.

The sky opens and energy tendrils ensnare Spidey and Hulk, transporting them to Lemuria, the realm of the Deviants and Warlord Kro. Kro gives them a tour and a history of the stone in Hulk’s possession and how its origin rests with the immortal space gods, the Celestials. Enter a mess of Eternals and the return of Karnilla who steals the stone and departs. Spidey, Hulk, and the Eternal Icarus give chase. Just when Karnilla seems triumphant, here comes Zuras, Leader of the Eternals and one last guest star, All-Father Odin, who puts Karnilla in her place and crushes the stone.

Great read. I’d buy it for Greg Land’s art alone. Every panel is a delight. I’ll be reading future volumes.

The last book (so far) in the Symbiote Spider-Man series sees the symbiote-possessed Spider-Man running into a myriad of characters pursuing a Norn Stone across dimensions, while the Black Cat and Doctor Strange work to bring him home.

This one has a lot of different characters from all corners of the Marvel Universe and overall I think it works but it took a while for this one to click with me. We get Eternals, The Hulk, Devil Dinosaur and all sorts of other characters I wasn’t fully familiar with.

A personal highlight was Spider-Man explaining sarcasm to an ape (don’t ask), who in turn tells Spider-Man that “my world started making considerably less sense since I ran into you” ….well I’m sure that’s not the first time our favourite Wall Crawler heard a similar line.

This got pulled in so many different directions that I started to think it was going to be horrible... but then I just relaxed and let myself go on the ride. Canon or not doesn't matter when it comes to symbiote stuff.

I read this in single issues as it was released.

The first 2 issues had me so excited because I thought it would be some fun museum heist type plot focused on Black Cat and Symbiote Spider-man... unfortunately Black Cat does very little after Spider-man is transported to another dimension and find Hulk there.

Ultimately the comic book is largely focused in this alternate dimension and just doesn't do much with any of the characters.

The book felt very generic beyond one faucet: The Art was Top Notch Beautiful! All the characters look great and Black Cat really looks beautiful. Unfortunately comics need good stories too.

Hope to see another Miniseries attempt with Black Cat and this artists with a more competent writer.

Really only a 3ish star book but the art is so good I had to rate it higher!

I am a sucker for revisiting this era’s Spidey since it hit me squarely in my comics mania phase (did I ever leave it?). I just wish the pacing wasn’t so frenetic. All the jumps are set off by an Asgardian baddie wanting a Norn Stone. From there, we run into Hulk, Deviants/Eternals, Doctor Strange…..whew. The Hulk from this time is banished in the dimensional crossroads (they tried this before Planet Hulk). The Norn stone triggers one of his other personalities, I guess????? The Deviants show up, want the stone, which brings the Eternals into it. The Norn stone crisis is resolved by Odin, which he should have done years before, apparently. Art is good. Just wish they’d take some time with the story rather than rush it. An old pro like David should be allowed to pace this better, as he did in the past many times.

Ahhhhh, the law of dimishing returns. These symbiote Spider-Man stories started out as a boon. We got great art and interesting stories. They've kept pumping them out as they sold, and now we're at this....mashup. Great art, but we get a whole suitcase full of side characters that..aren't needed.

First off, Crossroads as a premise was weak from the get go. It does give you a chance to get a rampaging Hulk appearance. We get some Eternals crossover. Some Asgardians stop by. Black Cat drafts Doctor Strange for a mystical save.

Bonus: Hulk's bad side makes an appearance
Bonus Bonus: Norn stones come in handy, right?

A funny, antic-filled Spider-Man story by Peter David. Hulk mainly worked as an antagonist so he didn't get to shine (except for constantly correcting people who called him "Thing" or "Beast" with other Marvel characters). Greg Land is still tracing porn faces for the female characters but thankfully a lot of oddly inhuman characters gave him work to do.

For being called "Symbiote Spider-Man," the collection really has nothing to do with the symbiote suit and it has the emotional depth of a puddle, but if you want a Peter Parker who knows how quip and fight scenes that are mostly well drawn you couldn't ask for more.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

2 stars for spidey's distracting dance. the plot is kind of dumb, and greg land is... greg land. not sure how he's even still getting work, but anyway.

the art isn't too bad, especially for greg land, but my god, he cannot draw anyone who isn't white. also, black cat is cute but the dialogue is trite and this issue doesn't offer anything special, really. i like it enough to see if the next issue is better, but if it's just as bad as this one i won't continue after that.

Another of Peter David's Spider-man stories set in 80s contintuity, this one has a great "everything goes" feel to it, with a grab bag of weird guest stars and cameos peppered throughout. The story itself is pretty simple, and really just an excuse for some jokes and action, which is fine if you want something breezy and fun, like I did. Greg Land's art and some great colour work really bump this up a notch. 3.5 stars.

An entertaining romp following much the same recipe as the previous Symbiote Spider-Man storylines - draw on 1980s Marvel canon, mix in some obscure older characters with whomever featured in a current MCU production, and have random things happen. Of the four volumes thus far, this probably does the best job with the formula; though I was hoping for a little more in-depth analysis of what exactly was going on with the Hulk. (B+)

Better than Symbiote Spider-Man, not quite as good as Alien Reality, but overall, a very fun read.
I like Land's artwork (I know there are a lot of haters) apart from the way he does faces (especially male faces), however, black-suit spidey is sleek and well drawn, as are his female characters.
The story was fun, and having the Hulk appear was fun too. A fun, quick read, and very similar to the other "Symbiote" runs.

David's Symbiote Spider-Man stories have been excellent. Fun to see him throw other characters into the mix and see how the interact. David seems to enjoy it, too. He makes a good case Peter works better with Black Cat 🤔

COLLECTING: Symbiote Spider-Man: Crossroads (2021) 1-5 (less)

The artwork was incredible, but the story was so-so. My biggest takeaway from this story is seeing how much Black Cat cared for Spider-Man during this time period.

Super fun Spider-Man action

Reminds me why I love Spider-Man comics. Action, funny, great art, and a team up from the man that ruled the hulk, Peter David. Oh and a dash of Black-Cat for the fun\sexy. Just get it, you'll love it.

This is probably the best of these Symbiote miniseries so far. I still think these lack depth, but the formula of throwing Spider-Man into weird situations with whatever heroes Peter David wants to write about does make some interesting scenes.
