A page turning conclusion for Mr Hystad's "The Traveler" trilogy. Although part of a trilogy (?), each book can be read independently as Mr Hystad skillfully incorporates anything the reader needs to know. That said, it's much better to read the previous books. This is a fun, fast paced, take-you-away, consistently written story arc. Mr. Hystad created the protagonists and antagonists, and each book takes place during newer years and more challenging scenarios.
Prepare for destruction! The Outsiders are coming!
After saving Seattle from the Travelers (and sending another group of Spheres on to their new, safe homeworld) Elliot, Kim, Bones and Cindy along with new friends Buzz and Tilly had been tasked by the President to find out everything they could about the new aliens on their way to Earth. Their signal had been repeating for 10 years, but newly translated, it was determined to say, "Your destruction is imminent. Prepare for surrender or perish in the eternal flame.”
Ethan " Buzz" Scott had been placed in charge of the group by the President and tasked with learning everything about the new aliens and preventing them from destroying Earth. A new member had been added to the group, Buzz's ex-wife Bernadette Harlow. The group had been formed years earlier and called the Defense Against Extraterrestrials Division or DAETD and had originally led by Elliot's Uncle Taylor who was now in prison. Taylor had compiled much information in his secret laboratory and told Elliot and Elliot's mother its location in Ecuador and Taylor's partner Marnie had the key. Kim tracked down Marnie in London, using the name Nancy Minor. Marnie filled them in on Taylor's plans to capture Esol and use them to draw a Traveler Champion to help them and bargain for weapons and knowledge to defeat the new aliens, the "Outsiders". Marnie told them where in Ecuador the lab was located and she became the newest member of the group.
The lab in Ecuador turned out to be everything they needed: airships, mechs, weapons, and computers full of data on Travelers and Esol. They had a plan, but instead of the three months they thought they had to prepare, the timeline was now one week! But they had a plan! It might just give them an edge, then again it may just kill them all. Several more volunteers and the team that had fought the Travelers and killed their Champion, was growing. But would it be enough?
Some great new characters add to the core group and all together they might just stand a chance. A slim chance, if everything worked like they planned. But when does that ever happen? In this third volume of the trilogy, the characters and the storyline take a tremendous beating, but in the end - this is a tremendous read and a heaping lot of fun!
I just loved this! Following the further adventures of Elliot, Kim, Bones, Buzz and the rest of the gang as they prepared for the arrival of the Outsiders. And let's not forget the Esol and the Travelers, too. Uncle Taylor seems to want to help one moment, then goes back to the other side. Where will his loyalties lie when the chips are down? Everyone has to merge onto Bell Island and most of the locals agree to go to the mainland to get out of the way. Read this book and see how Nathan Hystad was able to bring everything together in such a fantastic way. Thank you, Nathan. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Elliot Kim Bones and Buzz are back well sort of. Kim is stil searching for Esol. Bones is finishing an apprentice program and Elliot is working an office job as they all live together in Vegas. Buzz is still out there…somewhere.
I enjoyed the journey that the group was taken on but this one seemed to be redundant and predictable. The series could’ve wrapped up after the second book but if you started the series, I recommend finishing the series.
There are few things as devastating as betrayal by somebody close to you. That Elliot can sincerely attest to. But then discovering that a third alien force has been detected and likely as enemy to Earth as well is as if confirming life on Earth is due to be vanguished. Or is it? Can one enemy be arrayed against another? Life certainly takes a turn to uncertainty again for Elliot, Buzz and company as they have to contend once again with unprecedented danger in Dark World. Enjoy.
This review is for all three of " The Travelers". To be honest I was so into Nathan Hystad's story line I didn't want to stop reading! Wonderfully written
with characters that just felt real! Nonstop intrigue, action with what seemed improbable results Yet believable. A really enjoyable 3 evening's. Thank you Nathan Hystad
Its been awhile since the last book but drama occurs and everyone is mostly back to deal with it all. Another fast paced bit of trouble to navigate and overcome. A good ending to the series. Had to see what would pop up this time around. AN interesting look at aliens and their invasion.
What away to end this series of books, as expected this is a page turning conclusion for Nathan's "The Traveler" trilogy. As a few other readers have pointed out you could take each book in the series as an stand alone book. But I recommend that you read all three books.
I am not a fan of his earlier works. This set of three is outstanding. Wonderful character development outshone the “perils of Pauline” plot. Enthusiastically recommend the Travelers trio.
I loved the travellers books and the other three I highly recommend this author . They are great and believable and I can't praise this author more. Read them . I will be eagerly waiting for the next
I really enjoyed this series! Fun, exciting, and aliens! What more could anyone want? Except, maybe more books in this series. Three books just didn’t seem like enough. I love the characters and the fact that it’s set in the 80s.
Let me fly a UFO boss! I always wanted to fly one.
Really good concept story, characters were strong and funny at times. It's a great read and good stuff for all you Sci-Fi fans like me, read it and see.
