First off, I hemmed and hawed about reviewing this on my Goodreads account. Do I want to let others know what I'm struggling with? The reality is, if this review encourages one person living in a home with alcoholism to read this book, airing my dirty laundry is well worth it!

An oldie but a goodie. The content is timeless, regardless of having been published decades ago - a drunk is a drunk and the effects are devastating - and that doesn't change with time.
If you are the wife/partner of an alcoholic, either actively drinking or active in recovery, this book is for you! This book seemed to be written about myself and my husband! And it set me free while cleansing my soul! I immediately starting participating in Al Anon meetings again and putting the focus on me and my son. It is an empowering book! The road is hard, but well worth it!

This is a terrific book for anyone who lives with someone who has an addiction. It’s written specifically to wives of male alcoholics but if your spouse (or brother or roommate or best friend or anyone who is a more like a ‘peer’ and not a parent) has or has had a problem with working too much, over eating, anorexia, religion, drugs, booze, or has/does some other behavior or compulsion that bothers you and you think is unhealthy or a problem for them, this book can be very helpful and you will glean a ton from it. If you’re in a “hopeless” situation or feel pity for your situation, this is a must read. Summary: start focusing on yourself and constantly go back to “what do I want” this is a good intro book to al-anon recovery.
