A remarkable witness to several of the most epoch-making events of the 20th century, towards the end of her life Dorothy McLorn penned a volume of memoirs. These memoirs form the basis of this interesting biography, which also draws on a memoir by her son Philip.
This book was purchased for personal reasons. It seems the Intrepid woman of the title was the daughter of a manager of a calico factory in St. Petersburg, Russia. This factory was founded and owned by William Hubbard, my g-g-g-g-g- grandfather! I know that is a lot of greats!
I purchased the book so I could get a find out a bit more about my English family and the life they led in Russia. There was not a lot about my family, just a bit, but it was very interesting to read about this woman and her life in Russia and China during major moments in history. In Russia she was a witness to the Russian revolution, and in China was caught up in the Japanese invasion.
