For undergraduate/graduate animal science or equine studies courses at the levels, The Horse, 2/e provides in-depth discussions of equine biology, nutrition, genetics, reproduction, health, and management--with an emphasis on anatomy and physiology, and the care of legs and feet, that will help students assess injuries.
This isn't the sort of book you can read quickly in one go. It's a really in-depth reference book and, although it helped get me through my degree course many moons ago, it's not something I read cover to cover again. Instead, I dipped in and out of the different chapters, focusing on the bits I found interesting and skipping anything that wasn't.
It's well researched, well written and, for me here in the UK, was an interesting look at the horsey world on the other side of the pond. Lots of lovely photos, colour ones too, which I always think are essentially, especially when talking about coat colour and genetics (which happen to be my favourite subjects).
Definitely not a book for your average dabbler in all things horsey, but for anyone with a bit of a scientific background, or the patience to keep looking things up, it's worth its weight in gold!
