[Siren Classic ManLove: Erotic Alternative Paranormal Romance, M/M, vampires, bondage, public exhibition, sex toys]
Stefan Marius learned early on that his desire for men was not only frowned upon, but forbidden, so he hid it from everyone until he believed it himself. When his brothers both find male mates and receive the full support of their family, Stefan begins to question what he knows.
Deciding that he needs time away to come to terms with himself, Stefan takes a road trip. Along the way, he checks out the gay scene looking for answers. But Stefan never thought he'd find his mate, Patrick, inside of a gay club. He certainly didn't think he'd find the man chained down to a table performing public sex acts against his will. Stefan could care less that Patrick is trapped in a situation not of his own making or that the sadistic man holding him hostage will want him back. Stefan just knows he has to rescue his mate.
Patrick is being tortured and sexually abused in a sex club. Stephan, after realizing it's ok to be gay and that his family still loves and supports him, sets out on a road trip to explore being gay and to 'find himself'. He happens to go into this club and immediately recognizes Patrick as his mate. Never mind that Patrick is being forced to have sex with two men. Stephan rescues Patrick and whisks him off to his home.
I read Joyee Flynn books for purely entertainment value, a break from the other 'serious' PNR books I normally read. They are funny to me, although I don't think the author intended them to be so. There is always lots of crying, giggling, lots of the alpha 'MINE' possession speech, and sex. Lots of sex. The mate usually does the most crying (at about every turn of the page, really though? lol), but then the 'warrior' cries too, which always make me want to roll my eyes and laugh.
You might read the review on Amazon that gave it a one star. Even though I agree about the crying, (and there is a lot of it), these books are fun and funny. It's kinda of like a bad BDB parallel universe, where all the brothers are gay. But for some reason (probably the sex), I feel compelled to read them. LOL

Seriously, if someone passes out around you for real--I don't mean falling asleep when drunk--wake them up. It's not normal and something could be seriously wrong.
Aww, Stefan is so sweet and that's really a cool idea about switching the first time in order to make it special.
Patrick comes across as a little boy, especially when he disappears and they panic and cry and find him sleeping and he doesn't even wake up as he's carried. "I feel icky and tired."
Okay that was totally awesome when he made it clear it was his body and he would talk to his doctor and make his own decisions about it.
Don't ever hold someone down who's convulsing! That's how you hurt them! Just move stuff out of their way. Quickly move them somewhere safe if they're in danger but don't hold them down!
Hmm. I don't think there's anything on any pizza menu I've seen, even funky/hippy/mod/chic places that I haven't tried. Even anchovies. Even taco pizza with Doritos on top. (Yeah in college I worked for a chain place that had that. It was as disgusting as it sounds.) Maybe not everything at those radical places on pizza but certainly anything a normal mom and pop or chain pizza place serves. Oh I see, different combos. Well that still isn't that exciting.
I guess I'm not vindictive enough because what they did to Isaac just feels juvenile and mean and beneath them. But then I never feel a need for vengeance. I want to tell and scream and convince and persuade and make someone see how awful they were but two wrongs don't make a right. (And yes, I have had some pretty horrendous things happen to me and people I love. I'm a foster parent after all and have to deal with birth parents who rarely are the poor misunderstood people who unfairly have their kids taken away as they are portrayed on TV.) I want them to never be able to do it again and be held accountable but I don't think justice is the same as vengeance.
I'm not saying I don't have an evil or extremely immature streak--I'm sure I do--I'm just really uncomfortable with everyone finding the whole thing hilarious.
What I do love and appreciate is how Patrick talks to Abraham about being "insecure in life" because he feels "the need to belittle others."
Not a lot of conflict. Didn't live up to the potential of an abused mate premise. But it was fine.
I have been looking forward to this one because Stefan is such a dick when we first meet him which set him apart form his brothers. So I liked that we meet up with him he is on a mission to find out who he really is and what he wants. It is almost fitting he meets his mate and he is in a bad situation because Stefan has to think about the consequentness of his action and how those action effect others. This one really is about stand up and being who you are, watching Stefan and Patrick come together and how Stefan is careful to make sure Patrick is able to make his own choices is a thing of beauty. I have to say though when the circumstances of Patrick's birth are talked about I guess what he outcome would be. I am not saying it was overly predictable or maybe am I don't know. this didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the story, if anything I found myself smiling and saying ' I knew it!!'
I might have totally misunderstood things, but Patrick was raised human. His mother was human, As a human he would be, presumably, enrolled in school and doing things kids do. Patrick's mother He said he was forced into his debt when he was 17, at the club. Yet Patrick (unless I misinterpreted the scene), never had pizza, green pop (I'm guess Mt. Dew) and said he's never seen a computer! WTF? I could overlook it if he said he never learned to use one, but never seeing one? I don't buy it. He said he spent a lot of time at the hospital when his mom was sick. Hospitals have vending machines, with what? Pop. Surely, he's had pop before. Also, never seeing a computer, what about at the hospital? It just seemed weird. In the next book, with Victor, I can understand the mate's cluelessness. It makes sense there, but here? He was raised human. Even kids with shitty lives and are poor know and have experienced the things Patrick hadn't.
Let me start by saying that I have already read the majority of the books in this series and was following it for a long time. I lost track of it and realized recently that I had about 4 new books in the Marius World Series to read. But it has been a long time since I read some of them, and I couldn't really remember much of the overarching plot. I also hadn't read much of the "Beyond the Marius Brothers" stories and never even added the ones I read onto Goodreads. I decided to take up the challenge of re-reading all the books (21 so far) in this series chronologically and writing a few thoughts on each. So I will set new dates to the "read date" section as I go along.
Stefan was an OK read. I really didn't think of anything worthwhile to write about. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. Just OK. I am giving it 2 stars because, I just didn't connect much to the book.
I think this was a good part 3 for the series. The style of the book is the same as the other two so if you like those, you will like this one, if you didn't like the other two, I don't think you will like this one better. It's a nice story with a lot of interesting characters but again the relationshp developed rather quick. Great about the book was that you get to know all the characters a lot better and there were some real feel good moments. Maybe there were a little too much of those because problems got solved real fast and decisions were made very fast at times. The conclusion is that I really liked this book, but there were a few things I didn't like and those influenced how much I enjoyed this book.
The third installment in The Marius Brothers series was as interesting a read as the other two. Yes there were a couple of ploy holes but Ms Flynn pulled off another good story. Stefan Marius is gay but hid it all of his life because he learned that it was wrong from his bigoted friends. He sets out for New York City for a gay experience and finds his mate chained to a table being sexually abused. Patrick Hawk has never really had a life. He never knew his father, took care of his sick mother and became a sex slave to pay off his mother's hospital bills. The poor insecure twenty year old Patrick is more than overwhelmed by the opulence and wealth of his mate's family. A nice spin is put on the vampire story by mating a human with a vampire and the changes it brings about.
I loved this third book as much as the first two. The story is deceptively simple, but what really pulled me in was the emotions between Stefan and Patrick. As unlikely as the story would be in real life, in this paranormal/vampire world it works like a charm (at least for me).
Stefan is protective, a true knight in shining armor. Patrick is adorable, and is in so deep that he's in desperate need of a hero. He almost refuses to believe he's finally found him, at first. When he starts making his own decisions, Stefan needs to get used to that, but, true to his earlier promises, he sticks with it.
A great read with lots of fairy tale feeling and some hot sex.
There seemed to be a lot of set up and little resolution. Pat was seriously physically, mentally and sexually abused for many years but he just seemed unaffected by everything that had happened. I get that finding your mate might have some soothing healing qualities but there is a limit. Perhaps just a mention of some sort of ongoing therapy or talks with his mate? Otherwise it just seemed weird and the fact that Pat was ready to jump right into bed with Stefan after everything also struck me as odd. Patric and Stefan were great together and I really liked them. I just wish there was a little more development to their relationship and Pat's healing process.
typical joyee flynn serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical joyee flynn? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).
out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all books by : joyee flynn sunny day lynn hagen stormy glenn scarlett hyacinth carol lynne gabrielle evans
unless otherwise noted. i'd apologize, but i'm not sorry. i figure it's about as much time as they put into their books. dammit! well, i made it all the way to the end being rather moderate in my assessment. that's a win
I did like how there wasn't a big bad battle in this one. I did however think that given Patrick's past he would have been a little more hesitant with the sex factor. Also, no freak out over vamps? Kind of weird.
I am glad Stefan redeemed himself after the first book. I was kind of afraid I would never like him. Glad that changed.
So, these books are my "fun" reads. They are not complex or complicated. Everything is straight forward with a HEA. I know that Patrick wouldn't get over what happened to him so quickly but it was nice to think that love could accomplish it:)
Really could not get into this book at all. Ignoring issues with Patrick being far to well adjusted after 3 years of abuse, nothing really happens in the book. Some of the major events are just reported back to the characters - O the evil guy is gone to jail, woohoo - bored now.
I liked Stefan and Patrick, but I found this story to be a little over the top. Patrick is horribly abused, rescued, told his rescuers is vampire and that he is the mate of said vampire... his reaction was pretty much nothing. It was all settled a little too easily.
Too many weeping warriors, too many annoying, giggling mates, too many nosy women, too many stupid moves, too many family members!!! but in the end it was simply not enough. awful read.
