The Advocate's Nightmare

Rate this book
Attorney Sabre Brown has dealt with her share of predators over the years as a child advocate, but the defendant in her latest case is the worst—targeting vulnerable women and their young daughters for decades. When the predator is abruptly murdered, Sabre’s investigator reluctantly takes the case, but with so many victims, who are now suspects, JP struggles to make progress.

Meanwhile, Sabre’s brother gets tangled in a paternity/custody case, and she has to defend him in court—her worst nightmare. The stunning truth for both cases is buried in the past. Can they dig it up and nail the killer before innocent men are framed for crimes they didn’t commit?

Nothing nightmarish about this book, other than how good it is. It's the type of book that still has you thinking about it long after it is over. This author certainly knows how to write an entertaining and intriguing story that has you hooked until the end, especially with two cases to solve. This does mean the story jumps between the two but this works for the story and is no way confusing, even with all the suspects being questioned. The main case does focus around child abuse and I must admit that by the end I had shed a few tears, not because it is graphic or traumatic but like JP I just didn't want any of the victims to be responsible. The second investigation for JP, which is in no way a lesser case and I think the part that actually stuck with me, is a paternity case that involves Saber's own brother. It's scary what goes on in the world and this author makes you believe that it can actually happen. The characters are well written, human and loveable and are a big reason I like this series so much. I can't wait for the next book.
Saber's case has her trying to stop a child predator from returning back to his latest victim, if she can control the young girls father from attacking the step father, that is. Then the defendant is found dead and it becomes a case of trying to keep her client out of jail. The more they learn about the victim the more they learn that he himself left behind a long list of victims. Could one of those victims have become a killer? At the same time Saber's brother Ron gets named in a paternity case but with no possible way he could be the father it's up to JP to find out why the DNA proves otherwise.
I like the narrator, especially the voice he used for JP and his unusual saying it made it so easy to picture the character and others.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntary left this review.

An exemplary legal thriller surpassing all its predecessors!!

Sabre Brown is representing a client who requests custody of  his 8 year old daughter Dakota who has been molested by her stepfather!! Incidents happen in the court that affect Sabre's client adversely.

Sabre's colleague, friend and a fellow lawyer Bob  has accepted a new mentally disturbed client Carla, an ex- girlfriend of  Sabre's brother Ron, who has lost custody of her 4 year old daughter Liberty due to her mental illness and wants Bob to get her daughter restored to her. While maintaining the virtuous qualities of her daughter's father,  Carla refuses to name the father. Carla also wants Liberty to be placed with her stable sister Emma and her husband if she is found to be not eligible to have her daughter!

The content of the book is the legal resolution of the cases of both the children! The irrefutable information revealed in the case of Carla and Liberty is one that sends all concerned, particularly Sabre into a state of deep shock that brings on nightmares,  the same one repeated ad infinitum!

Sabre being a strong,  purposeful, positive and decisive person decides on the best possible outcome for all people involved including the minors and the book has to be read in its entirety to enjoy this brilliant book to its fullest extent.  She takes the help and support of all her loved ones such as JP - her all supportive boyfriend,  her closest friend Bob,  her nephews and nieces and so on.

I can't describe in words the immense effect this book has had on my psyche , my perception of human values and nature and learn to be non-judgmental!! Thank you very much, Teresa for the honor and privilege of beta reading this extraordinary book!!

Having read and enjoyed several books in The Advocate Series, I was eager to read the 14th in the series. The author, Teresa Burrell, knows how to keep a reader's interest. The pages practically turned themselves. And Burrell did a great job of keeping the culprit's (and there were plenty of possibilities!) identity hidden until the end. It was certainly a 'wow-I-didn't-see-that-coming' moment! The story moves quickly and the author brings satisfactory closure to several situations in the book. For readers who enjoy female sleuth mysteries, the Advocate series is a must-read. The narrator, John Bell, does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life in this book. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

The Advocate's Nightmare is the fourteenth book in the Advocate Series featuring Attorney Sabre Brown. In this book, Sabre is determined to clear a loving father of the murder of the man who sexually assaulted his eight year old daughter. She must also work on a very personal case involving her brother Ron. Of course her colleague and friend, Bob Clark, and her partner and part time investigator, JP, are in her corner and helping. I am a fan of the series; The Advocate's Nightmare is a very satisfying
read. 4.5 Stars.

Any attorney's worst nightmare is having to defend a close family member in court. She is actually a child advocate-and her brother is accused of being the father of a child that could not be his.

Meanwhile there is predator who has been targeting women with young daughters for many years. How are they ever going to be able to make sure the man who is the real predator is caught and not the man the police seem to be targeting. Then someone murders the predator! JP goes around and around talking to witnesses. You won't believe who murdered the predator--and finally came clean to him!!

The Advocates Nightmare is a well written story of a man who likes little girls. He gets their single mothers to move n with him so he can be with the little girls. After a time their mothers find out and move out of the house. This happens several times until he is found murdered. Not only are the police looking into the death but a Private Investigator is interested. The story is well done even though there are some side issues that are not particularly important to the story. I enjoyed the book and would read more by this author.

Feel Good

The police have their eyes on the father of one of the abused children, certain he is the murderer. Tracing the murderer of a man with a history of child abuse, but there are so many possible culprits.

There’s also a paternity issue where the alleged father denies any relations with the mother for eight years, whereas the child in question is only four years old.

It’s a good story well written with different story threads, whilst each story of separate they are interwoven by the characters involved.

IA rides again and so does Ron

Ms Burrell’s books read quickly as you are drawn into the story. Time passes quickly reading as Sabre has her older brother as a client, as an old flame accuses him of paternity of her four year old daughter and a paternity test seems to prove it but Ron hasn’t seen her for 8 years. In the meantime a molester of little girls is murdered and is a case Sabre also gets to handle.

Another Winner

Once again Teresa hit a home run. This is another book that I would highly recommend. I'd give it to my 12 year old niece or my 95 year old neighbor. It is intriguing and clean.
I've read all of Teresa Burrell's books and loved ever single book.
This however is the first book that made me cry. And I'm not a sentimental person but a couple of the characters reminded me of my late parents. To elaborate further might be considered a spoiler

A Powerful Story

Teresa Burrell has written another superb story in the life of Sabre Brown. I enjoyed becoming reacquainted with her, JP, their "children," and her brother Ron. The emotional impact is stunning, and it took me longer to read this story than others in the series. As previously, from beginning to end, the story may be fictional, but its content is tragically real. My compliments on another success!

I have read all of the books in this series. Unfortunately, this was far from the best for me. There were several plots, all with many participants, and I had trouble keeping track. The solution to the main plot seemed improbable and it disappointed me. The entire paternity suit also baffled me and seemed scientifically impossible. The feel good ending was a little over the top. Time for me to move on from the Advocate.

The pain In this World is real

The setting of this book was different than Ms Burrell others. There were so many people or characters in this story it was hard to remember who everyone was.
All in all, I loved the book.

The Advocate's Nightmare

Two stories interwoven. Finding evidence against the pedophile leads to a trail of victims over the years. Paternity when no contact occurred. Well written and well thought out.
