Which is worse, getting involved with one of your students or with one of your professors? Graduate student Paige Huntley finds herself dangerously tempted by both possibilities one summer in her sleepy Oregon town. Professor Stefan Serovinak, her thesis adviser, is elegant, witty, and brilliant, but married. To keep her mind off him, it's easy to flirt instead with gorgeous young Aidan Grey, a film star who has turned up as a student in the summer Linguistics class she's teaching. But their flirtation soon tumbles into a romantic entanglement that could wreck careers and reputations when the faculty--and the tabloids--find out about it.
[Aug. 2022 note: I'm going dormant on Goodreads and moving over to Storygraph. Find me there! I'm under username mollyringle and would love to connect.] Bio: Molly Ringle was one of the quiet, weird kids in school, and is now one of the quiet, weird writers of the world. She/her, demi, bi.
Paige Huntley, a grad student teaching a summer course, is surprised to see film star Aidan Grey on her class roster. She's getting over a broken engagement, and has been thinking a lot lately (maybe a little too much!) about her urbane dissertation adviser, the attractive but married Stefan Serovinak. The last thing she needs is the distraction that comes with having an attractive celebrity in her class. But as summer term unrolls, she finds there's something about Aidan that she didn't expect, and begins to find hard to resist. Aidan has come home to the remote college town where he grew up to finish his degree and figure out if he's as enthused about this whole Hollywood thing as he once thought. Meeting the attractive, down to earth and clever Paige was definitely not on his syllabus. Take these ingredients, stir in some stalkerazzi fans, a pushy agent, and a great cast of side characters, plunk them down on a sleepy summer college campus, and you have a charming, funny, sometimes suspenseful, and very satisfying light romantic novel.
For some reason this book makes me think of a lovely German wine - light, sweet but not cloying, with many classic, familiar elements, but still fresh and original. It's definitely a Qualitatswein mit Pradikat - a superior wine with special qualities. The characters are maybe a little too good to be true (that's one sensitive and understanding movie star, you've got yourself there, Paige!), but isn't that part of the fantasy fun, really? There is definitely some toe curling mclovin' going on, too - this is def an adult romance, and there's a bit more of the old je'ne sais quoi going on than in the YA I'm used to reading (wow, what you girls are getting up to these days!), but it's sweet and intense and conveys so nicely the dizzying, overwhelming emotions that engulf our mc's and catapult them into and out of each others arms, even against their better judgment and common sense. And isn't that what love is supposed to do?
I accidentally found this book and I'm sure glad I did. Paige is a Linguistics Teaching Assistant at the local University. One of her students happen to be Aidan Grey, a famous Hollywood actor. Aidan decides to take a summer off from filming to finish and earn his college degree, in his hometown of Gordon, Oregon. Initially, Paige, being a "fangirl", finds herself instantly attracted to Aidan. Of course he's completely hands off, since he is her student. Aidan, in return, finds his Linguistic's teacher intriguing. Their relationship takes a little bit of time to blossom, and the whole "forbidden relationship" thing between them is hot. On the other end of Paige's complicated love life has been her long time crush on her Graduate Professor, Stefan. He's smart, sexy and also completely hands off since he's married. However, Stefan's marriage is on the rocks and he's just buying time until he can act on his attraction to Paige. Throw in Paige's super-awesome BFF, an obsessive stalker, a couple twists and turns, and you got a wonderfully delicious soap opera-like story. I really enjoyed it =)
What if you had a chance to have a fling with Hollywood's "It" guy? Young, gorgeous and sexy, yet totally off limits, would you risk everything for a few stolen (and incredibly hot) moments? Paige Huntley is faced with that very question when she looks up and sitting in the linguistics class she's teaching is non other than Aidan Grey, heartthrob extraordinaire. Paige is torn not only about what's right and wrong but also between Aidan and HER professor Stefan! What's a girl to do? I really liked Paige as a MC. She was sweet and I found her easy to relate to.
I don't know about you, but I'm guilty of harboring a crush or two on some Hollywood heartthrob at one time or another. Ok, I'll even admit to a fantasy (or five) about him falling madly in love with me ( what is it about GR that has me confessing like I'm at church in some of my reviews?) and sweeping me off my feet. Though I seriously doubt my fantasy heartthrob would turn out to be half as perfect as Molly Ringle wrote Aidan Grey! He's not your typical cocky, bad boy actor and honestly I loved that about him. He was down to earth and didn't care much for the attention his fame brought him. He took care of his mother (collective ahhhh) and was just an all around good guy. Yet he was still utterly sexy with some major toe curling scenes between him and Paige.
The storyline was fast paced and fun to read and the reveal to an ongoing question of "who done it" left my jaw open because it was so far off from who I thought it was. The secondary characters were entertaining and I especially loved Paige's friend Ky (their dialog cracked me up about season 6 of Buffy being depressing).
I'm so glad that I won this book from the giveaway! This book was amazing. I fell in love with the characters automatically. Aiden was just the most down to earth celebrity and he was so hansom, I could see why Paige fell for him. And Stefan's situation was just so saddening, but it was just a tad bit predictable. I loved reading their relationship and how it grew. It definitely gives me inspiration for the book that I have been writing. I enjoyed this book throughout every page. It was very well written and I definitely recommend it to everyone 13+ due to some sexual situations. I really enjoyed it and I hope to read another of Molly Ringle's books soon.
This book is very enjoyable and entertaining. Paige is a graduate student teaching a Linguistics class in the summer. One of her students in her class was Aidan, a movie star trying to wrap up his degree by finishing up his remaining requirements. It was fun reading Paige's infatuations with Stefan, her married professor and Aidan. Both guys were attracted to her. Pursuing a relationship with either of them was clandestine and she picked the lesser of the two evils and embarked on a summer fling with Aidan. The story was cute and the physical attraction between Paige and Aidan was scorching "summer hot".
To me this book is probably a good solid 3.5. It's a quick easy sexy read that you won't get too emotionally sucked in. There is an interesting love triangle and an exciting ending! The author also does a great job of wrapping the story up at the end.
Cute tale about Paige Huntley. She's a graduate student teaching a summer linguistics class. She's infatuated with her mentor/advisor, Stefan Serovinak. Hmmm but not happening, he's married!
So she then comes across Aidan Grey, a movie star, who's enrolled in her class. She's different. He's exciting. Let the fun begin!
A roller coaster ride of fun and romance, and it doesn't let up until the end. Really fun listen, enjoyed it a lot :) I thought it was well written and the narration was great! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Having a hot young film star in her summer session Linguistics 101 class leads to complications in this romantic suspense story. There's a love triangle, a tabloid scandal, a stalker and lots of steamy romance in a tale that's a whole lot of fun. I love Molly Ringle's unconventional romances and this one didn't disappoint.
Backstory on this one! - I was a linguistics grad student myself way back in the day, so the curriculum and university-policy stuff should be more or less accurate. But I did not, repeat NOT, get romantically involved with any of my students or professors, nor did I have any film stars in my classes (*regretful sigh*), so that is all artistic license.
Other than that, this is a very straightforward contemporary-romance steamy summer-beach-read kind of a deal.
And is already outdated, at least in the part where they RENT A DVD TO WATCH. I mean, who does that anymore? That's SO ten years ago.
Anyway. Enjoy! Have a good summer! Don't transgress university policies!
