Meeting baseball superstar Ryder Sloan was desperately ill Zakary MacCrea's most cherished dream-and the Wishing Tree Foundation made it come true. Ellie MacCrea didn't dare tell her seven-year-old son she expected his irresistibly handsome idol to be an egotistical, publicity-seeking jock. But she found Ryder a tender, caring man, whose compassion warmed her wary heart and whose overwhelming masculinity dazzled her senses.
When Ryder made his promised visit to the MacCrea household, he never expected to become so emotionally involved with mother and child. He made it a personal goal to see Zak healthy and strong again. And then he made a wish of his own-to start Ellie believing in another kind of miracle-the miracle of love.
This book, while not an unpleasant read, struggled to fully capture my heart. Little Zakary was the undeniable star of the show, and the scenes centered around his interactions and hope were truly touching.
Unfortunately, the romance fell flat for me. I found the hero, Ryder, to be far too pushy in his pursuit, making it difficult to root for his "miracle of love." Furthermore, I never managed to warm up to Ellie. Her reluctance to embrace a new relationship, which seemed to stem from issues in her past marriage, felt contrived and unconvincing.
A sweet premise, but the execution of the romance left much to be desired.
