Meet Kilala, an ordinary girl who loves all the Disney Princesses. When she awakens a sleeping prince named Rei, she magically gains the power of the princesses! Rei is searching for the missing princess of his world, and has a magical tiara that will lead him to her. But before Kilala can help him find the missing princess and restore peace to his world, Kilala's best friend, Erica, is kidnapped by mysterious men! So, with the help of the magical tiara and Rei, Kilala sets off on a quest to find her!
I liked this *Ariel* volume much more than the *Snow White* volume that started the KP series. But, I credit that to the fact that Ariel is one of my favorite Disney Princesses. Also, this volume brought Kilala and Rei closer as well.
I don't think TokyoPop released the other 3 volumes of the KP series, but there are places to read them. So, I will finish this series.
When I first picked this up I absolutely loved the idea of a manga with Disney princesses in it. Unfortunately, the series fell a little flat for me. Kilala was at best annoying and over the top girly. A little is ok but she is all hearts and butterflies up in her own little world. As much as I fell in love with Disney and wanted to love this series I was struggling to just get through it. The drawing however was fabulous with well-defined character emotions. The Disney princesses and other characters were amazing too.
This one was even better then the first one! We had more action and stakes in this volume as opposed to the first one, and overall I thought the storytelling was much tighter and less meandering.
Kilala grew quite a bit in this volume and I like how she had to grow more confident and sure in herself but at the end still doubts her worth towards Rei a little, which I found very realistic. And while Rei is pretty much unconscious for most of the volume, I love his character too. ☺️
Ariel is one of my top favorite princesses, so I really enjoyed seeing her and the other characters from The Little Mermaid get to shine and be their amazing selves here. The mangaka did a good job writing her personality accurately!
I really enjoyed this volume and look forward to the next one!
Content: magic; magical objects and creatures; a character has a really bad fever; a shark chases characters; a character is kidnapped; violence and fighting (nothing over PG); a kiss; a kiss on the forehead
This was cute. I just happened to read the one with my favorite princess, Ariel, and the Disney art fit in really well with the rest of the manga characters.
(I read this because the publisher says this is intended for 13-16 year olds, and I have it in my kids graphic novel section, so I wanted to double check.)
"- Dis moi Kilala... Ça veut dire quoi aimer ? - Eh bien... Quand tu penses a celui que tu aimes, ça te réchauffe le cœur, et puis, tu te sens heureuse. Par moment il te manque très fort, et ton cœur te fait mal... Alors, tu te sens inquiète pour lui. - Ça doit être épuisant ! - Hi hi ! C'est vrai... Mais... C'est un sentiment que je veux garder précieusement dans mon cœur."
3.5/5. Somehow I only realized this is an author/artist duo manga. It's funny that it is duo since I feel so iffy on the plot and so great about the art that it almost makes sense there's a split between the two. The writing of this volume has me really split. It seems that depending on how the author is feeling Kilala either enters during the main story or prior to the main story of whatever Disney world she enters. This time with Ariel she is prior to The Little Mermaid. While it is fun to see Kilala interact with the princess very little actually happens that makes it feel like The Little Mermaid. Like, all the characters are there but none of the real plot beats or thematics feel like The Little Mermaid. It almost feels like set dressing. That being said the way was neat even if it felt like a bit of letdown that's all they did with The Little Mermaid. The story is not exactly helped by the lame romance. Kilala seems to just fall in love with Rei for no real reason. The ReixKilala romance still feels unearned but the moments keep coming. It feels weak even considering for the target demographic. They can still get deeper romance and stronger relationships while keeping it appropriate for them. I mean But the art by Nao Kodaka really brings the series up. Her art-style is just really neat. She's able to blend Western and Eastern artistic elements really well. The princesses in this volume have more anime-influence than in volume 1 but it works for the better. We still get awesome spreads all the time. And her background work is amazing. I swear Also, her shojo MC eyes are amazing. I love the sunburst eye effect on Kilala's eyes. Its that traditional younger shojo eye but just drawn really cool. While I love the art and the overarching story is getting more if the series doesn't get much better story-wise or romance-wise I might just start giving out 3/5 (not a bad thing to get one).
I thought this is cute too, and I love that Ariel saved them being the fact that she’s one of my favorite princesses. I thought it was really cool that they were transported to the world under the sea and we got to see Ariel before she meets Eric so we got to see like her beginnings I guess well some of her beginnings. In order to save Rei they needed this special medicine so Ariel helps her along with flounder and Sebastian of course, to get the medicine Rei needs. Well they leave Scuttle to watch Rei and the tiara. They get the medicine and Ariel goes back to singing practice and Kilala goes back to Rei only to discover he's missing. I love that we see Ariel really trying to be what King Triton wants her to be but also we see the fight and strength in her that we all know and love. They want her to be better and stronger with her singing but she's already there. SO Rei was taken by the sea witch Ursula because she wants to marry him so she can be a queen because it turns out Rei is a prince. Yup a true prince. Well shocker Kilala goes to save him and flounder goes to Ariel for help. Ariel sings a song to help Kilala to not give up. And they defeat Ursula and Kilala uses the crown to help. Ariel wants to fall in love like Kilala and it's so cute because we all know she does ❤️ Rei gets his medicine, they celebrate, Ariel gets her praise about her voice. Then Ariel gives Kilala one of her treasures; an aquamarine gem. It goes into the tiara. They journey home. Kilala goes him with Rei to find her parents are there. Turns out her mom couldn't get treatment in Paradiso because there's a rebellion going on. Rei is the prince of Paradiso so he leaves to help his country even though that means he's in danger. Kilala's mom tells her she can be a princess.

Kilala Princess Vol 2 is a middle grade graphic novel that continues the series of a girl that is transported into the worlds of her favorite Disney Princesses
Things you'll find: *Ariel and familiar faces from "The Little Mermaid"* *Very dramatic dialogue* *A huge leap in the love story*
I really enjoyed Volume 1 of Kilala Princess, however this book is missing a lot of the charm of the first volume. When we re-enter the world of Kilala, it almost feels like we're missing a book in-between this and the first. Kilala goes from having a pretty fresh crush to being madly in love with Rei and the jump feels so extreme for only one book down the line. This being a read geared toward middle grade, I do understand that things tend to happen faster, but she's completely devoted to him now in a way that just doesn't make sense given age and timeframe.
The pacing of this one is also off. Most of the story drags throughout the novel, until the end where we're racing to the finish line and some of the reveals are handled much more quickly then I would've liked. The art was really the saving grace of this volume, it was beautiful as always.
Overall, I want to continue to Volume 3 to see if maybe this one was just a fluke, but I wasn't as in love with this volume as I was the prior.
So this time around, Kilala and Rei get warped to Atlantica under the sea. They can breathe underwater and aren't mermaids, so I'm a bit disappointed by that. Also, the entire underwater kingdom are idiots as a result, since "all humans are evil" according to King Triton, and yet he doesn't recognize two of them wandering around, and neither does Sebastian...
Plot holes aside, we learn some stuff that should have been blatantly obvious already, but because it's technically a spoiler, I'll be tagging it as such.
The story was pretty much the same thing as the first volume, but with Ariel instead of Snow White, and a less compelling villain (how could they nerf Ursula?). It was cute, had a moral of being strong when things get rough, pretty typical little girl shoujo stuff.
This series is starting to grow on me, though, despite the "wow, this is just cheezy shoujo Disney-controlled Kingdom Hearts" commentary running through my head. It's cute, I don't have to think too hard, and Tanaka-sensei does a pretty good job of keeping the Disney princesses in character.
Plus, I gotta keep reading at least until my favorite Princess appears. :)

The second volume takes Kilala under the sea. She and Rei are separated and she must journey through the ocean with the help of some new friends to find him.
Another fun fast-paced adventure. Adorable artwork. I'm really enjoying getting new storylines with Disney princesses and villains.
I still think the love interest part is weird but it does mesh with the classic Disney princess vibe and shojo in general. Her falling in love with Rei just feels so sudden to me and romance isn't really my thing.
Still, a fun adventure. It's a nice quick read. Sets up the next book well. Will be continuing this series.
I don't normally read manga, but I agreed to try some out for The Amazing Readathon as it was a quick way to get some points for my team.
The charm of the first volume is basically gone, and this felt derivative and dull? The lesson Kilala is to learn from Ariel is to persevere for true love, and like ya, that tracks for her I suppose (I'm not an Ariel girlie so), but the very quick change from Vol 1 to Vol 2 with Kilala deciding she's in love with Rei felt very rushed. Like, she could have realized it later?
I AM an Ursula Stan however, and I felt the author didn't really understand her character here. She's just a stock villain here. SNORE.
Kilala finds herself in the ocean, where she has the aid of Ariel, Flounder and Sebastian in finding Rei - but when he ends up falling ill, she will need to stand against the power of Ursula to save him and protect the tiara, all while dealing with a shocking truth about his origins. Tanaka and Kodaka bring another cozy entry to fans with plenty of cheesy goodness in its illustrations and character, a fun time start to finish. Can Kilala figure out how to rescue Rei before Ursula can use him and the tiara to take over the ocean?
It’s super cute. And I love where they’re going with the story there were just a couple things that confused me in this one. Like
SPOILER!!!
How does Ursula become queen of Atlantic if she marries rei when rei is the prince of paradiso. It doesn’t make sense to me.
But other than that I still love it it’s super cute and sweet. I love the author and artists notes and the little segment for tippie. I just wish this was animated.
Now they're in ariel world. Kilala knows rei real identity that he's a real prince who's looking for the princess to save his country. Rei & kilala realised they love each other. They got snow white gem & Ariel gem so 5 gems to go for the crown. Kilala's parents are back in kilala's house especially kilala & rei arrived there. I love Princess ariel in disney ♥️

Okay, I really loved how they utilized Ariel-- I think it was smooth and I really like the way she was portrayed. Kilala and Rei is so cute, despite how suddenly they fall in love. It's disney.... that's how couples are in that world. It was 'love at first sight' haha. I still really love it and find it very cute. I found myself smiling the whole way through ^^
Se nota que son comics que van dirigido a un público mayormente infantil, son muy divertidos y entretenidos, lastima que en España solo se hubieran lanzado dos números y nunca se hubiera terminado.
