this is a nifty little handbook about the basics. it was a tad american-centric in some parts, i.e., healthcare insurance, labor protocols at hospitals, etc., rendering such advice essentially useless if you don’t live in america. the structure is also a bit messy and didn’t make sense to me. i do appreciate the idea of being able to reference back to the book as needed.

This is my wife's bible! She read it in a few days and refers back to it constantly. It has calmed her nerves and provides practical guidance on how to care for a newborn and the most common challenges you will face. When we are struggling with sleep or feeding, my wife will read me passages, and you can tell that this author/mom gets it. Her advice is realistic, level-headed, and exactly what you need to hear. She has done extensive research and lays out the facts, but at the same time leaves room for everyone's individual experience. We would have been completely lost if my wife hadn't read this book. She constantly says it has everything in it that no one else tells you.

This book was a short, sweet rundown of what to expect immediately following and for the first six months of raising a newborn. I loved how easy to digest it was and how candid the author is. She provides necessary disclaimers while also presenting evidence-based information about newborn development.

There is so much noise in the parenting sphere that I have really tried to steer clear of most parenting books, but this book was more mom centric rather than baby centered, so I enjoyed reading it from that perspective!

I started reading this book back in my second trimester and have slowly read a few bags leading up to now. I’m 34 weeks and this book was such a nice and realistic encouragement into what to kind of expect from motherhood. One of my biggest anxieties in becoming a new mom is what feels like “losing” time with my husband. This book had a whole section on ideas and ways to stay connect when baby arrives.
Overall a great and easy read, I read it as an ebook but I will definitely be ordering a physical copy to have on hand for reference.

Just what I was looking for as a clueless new mom! Started reading right when my lil bebe was born and it was perfect timing. It was so helpful to read that my experience was not isolated (and was actually extremely common - misery loves company!). Gave me a realistic view of what to expect in early newborn weeks and beyond.

Overview of a lot of what you need to know for the first 12 months, chapter 8 illness and first aid is helpful. Author seems to look down on systems I think are effective, such as eat play sleep and feeding schedules

This is a great overall guide and reference for the future. Most of this was covered in our newborn class, but I enjoy knowing I have this as a reference just in case.

One of the chapters says it's a month by month guide on common developments. However, it goes by weeks instead of months. Other than that, I found the book very helpful!

Easy read and very helpful! Everything was digestible and it started great conversations with my partner. This book was gifted to me and I suggest it as a great alternative to unsolicited advice.
