I just finished it so just want to savor it. It's a very personal book and its almost like you just had a conversation with the author and why on earth would you want to write about it? I too wonder why the world hasn't discovered her writing, as another Goodreads member queried. I will definitely read all her other works, the next one being the Last Communist Virgin [which I am told was actually the first book she wrote]

A vivid description of a woman's life in China growing up during the Cultural Revolution. She writes beautifully.

Very readabke, hard to put down! I have read a fair amount of pre-revolutionary Chinese life but this was the best I have read that depicts Chinese experince since the Cultural Revolution.
